“Amazing views, special location, lovely family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We have spent two wonderful vacations at Ederline Estate where Finchairn (pronounced "finni-hearn") is located--one at Christmas and one in July/August. This is an exceptional cabin located hillside overlooking Loch Awe. The color of the landscape and loch change with the daylight and weather. It is like living in a painting. This is for you if you want peaceful solitude, amazing views, and the freshest air on Earth. From the cottage, you can take walks up into the hills to see unparalleled views or down to the Finchairn Castle ruins and Loch Awe. A larger town with grocery, banks, mail, etc. (Lochgilphead) is about 20 minutes away. Argyll is not as busy as other parts of Scotland, but it is the country's birthplace and abounds with great historical landmarks. Carnasserie Castle, Kilmartin, and Fort Dunodd are within 15 minutes. The drives around Loch Awe, to Inverary, and to Oban/Ft. William are gorgeous. For the cabin itself--it includes a well-stocked kitchen, comfy beds, and perfect sun porch. The owners are friendly and helpful, happy to give advice on outings, etc. If you want to live in a painting, enjoy peace and escape, this is the place for you.

“Wonderful & peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We had a wonderful time in the cottage. It was extremely peaceful and secluded. The cottage itself was fine, especially the conservatory. We had everything we needed and the fireplace was great! The area was also amazing, we saw some ancient castles and prehistoric sites. The information provided on the area was also very complete. All in all, an fully positive experience!
Just some minor items: we had some problems both with the kitchen fan and the washing machine, but maybe these have now been fixed.
Also, why did we have to clean the entire cottage before we left, when the cleaners came in the very next day. Of course we are used to leaving cottages tidy and proper, take the sheets from the bed etc., but a full cleaning....But, this is just a minor issue, all in all it was wonderful!

“A cosy cottage with in a peaceful and beautiful location with fantastic views”

My favourite cottage on this lovely Estate. Finchairn cottage (pronounced Finahun!) is in the most peaceful location. When you arrive; before unloading your car, look out from the front of the cottage down to Loch Awe and you will realise that your long drive was completely worth it - all the worries of your day to day life will melt away. This cottage is within easy reach of the A816 (main coastal road to Oban and beyond) and the local town of Lochgilphead which has everything you need. The Estate has a wealth of wildlife ,beautiful walking, streams and lochs with some lovely wild brown trout fishing and coarse fishing for pike. There are bikes, boats and kayaks to hire - In fact, there is plenty to do on this estate without going more that a couple of miles by car! The coast is a short drive away with some lovely beaches and the Crinan canal where you can watch sea going boats come in from the Sound of Jura and travel 'across land' (along the Crinan canal!) to Loch Fyne. (This is also a great bike ride with a good pub somewhere along it) Just go - you'll love it!
