“What a wonderful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

Just back from a weeks holiday in the Servants Quarters at Torrisdale Castle. It was absolute luxury, the owners have thought of everything. Beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet and such fabulous accommodation to come home to everyday. We would highly recommend. Wish we had tried the sauna and hot tub, they were just getting this set up so think we will have to make a return visit to try them out. We also didn't manage to plant our tree - which is such a fabulous idea. We had a lovely holiday and really enjoyed the walks around the estate and a visit to the beach most nights - we even saw a few seals. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Well, what can we say here that hasn't already been said?! We have just had THE most amazing week of relaxation, looked after very well by our host Niall and his staff/family.
I have read a good many of the previous reviews and had to smile when I read that having little or no mobile phone signal was a problem ... not so for us, as it was a welcome disconnection from the 'outside world' at a time when we needed to 'recharge our batteries'. Besides, if making a call was necessary, it was only a short walk to a point where a signal could be obtained.
For us, the log-fired hot tub was without doubt the jewel in the crown of Garden Cottage and as we were in it so often, we were starting to get wrinkled skin by the end of the week (or is it just our age?!). The cottage itself is lovely and is a bit like stepping back in time when you enter. This is NOT a criticism ... in fact I hope it is never 'modernised' to look like so many other holiday cottages which make you feel you are still at home! No, Garden Cottage fits perfectly into it's role as a 'get away from it all' cottage. It is clean, comfortable (the king-size bed so luxurious), warm (logs and electricity supplied at no extra cost) and is situated amidst the most beautiful natural woodland, home to an abundance of flora and fauna. While relaxing in the hot tub, we had many buzzards fly low overhead and on one occasion had a sparrow-hawk in a tree near to us.
We took our bicycles with us and made good use of the many and varied tracks through the estate, safe in the knowledge that there were no lorries about to scare us!
I hope we can return for another wonderful holiday soon and do not hesitate to recommend this experience to others.
Many thanks again to all at Torrisdale Castle.

We stayed at the Servants Quarters over Christmas 2013.

The apartment is beautiful and tastefully decorated. With 3 bedrooms for the five adults and large dog in our party there was plenty of space and the whole apartment had a very homely feel to it.

There was limited mobile reception and no wi-fi, which was a disadvantage for the others in the party, but for me it was a welcomed get away from routine and opportunity to relax.

The castle and grounds are magnificent and with only a short walk to the beach it made Christmas day very special.

The only negative I could mention was that the en-suite bathroom was a little cool at this time of year and could have done with another radiator, but everything else far outweighed this.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting something different with a certain amount of seclusion and to be away from the commercial tourist attractions.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Dave, thanks for the review and we are glad you enjoyed your holiday! Thank you for all the comments you left at the property and on here - much appreciated. I have rectified the problem regarding the en-suite bathroom - because it is the last on the line of radiators, it wasn't heating up fully if the thermostat was coming on and off regularly, so have turned up the speed of the pump - job done! There is wifi, and the code is shown in the utility room - due to the thickness of the walls, you can pick it up in the living room and the kitchen.........I will double check it as may need to get a booster. Thanks once again for the recommendations, and hopefully see you again. Niall

We stayed at the Arch Cottage for a mid week break in September 2013.
Myself, my husband, our 11mth old and our well behaved cocker spaniel.
The accommodation could possibly do with a little updating but it is cosy, clean and just what we needed.
The bedroom was large enough for our sons cot (which was provided) with a huge comfortable bed.
The estate is great for walking around and the little tannery shop is very quaint.
They popped over on our arrival to check we were all settled and even left a box of age appropriate toys for our son, which was very thoughtful.
A small milk, washing up liquid and toilet roll was provided, but there is a Tesco in Campbeltown for supplies and a bakery 5 mins down the road.

The only downside for me was that we had no mobile reception whatsoever and internet is not provided.
I think having a phone/landline in the property would have been reassuring/helpful.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed our break, thank you Torrisdale.

Hi, and thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your break! It is a cracking little property.

I note your comments regarding the phone - in fact, we ordered a new line in the property back in April when we decided to make the Arch Cottage a self-catering property. However, after almost 6 months of pushing and prodding we have only just got it installed - 3 days after you left would you believe! The whole thing was a farce and even involved the local MSP and Campbeltown Courier.......anyway, to cut a long story short, broadband has now been installed and I am sorry it wasn't earlier! I might even point your review in their direction as a demonstration of the issues small businesses face.

Thank you once again and hope to see you back at Torrisdale once more.

We spent our 20th wedding anniversary in Garden Cottage at Torrisdale Castle - and had a thoroughly speldid time. We wanted to explore Kintyre - having never visited before - but chanced on Garden Cottage with it's eco hot tub and went for it. Wow. It's a littel idyll in the middle of the woods - with open views across the old walled garden. The hot tub is very special - needs a bit of work to understand it but if you're happy with any multi fuel stove you'll have no problems there. The cottage is simple, spacious for 2 with all that you need for a get away from it break. It's not super luxurious - but doesn't pretend to be - but is warm, cosy and the bed is very comfortable. The wooden shutters even facilitate sleeping beyond dawn. We watched seals and otters and any number of sea birds - and picked enough blackberries for a year's supply of jam. Niall made sure we had everything we needed - and then we were left in peace. Highly recommended if you want peace and quiet.

We've just stayed for a week in the Servants Quarters at Torrisdale castle. Recently done up, they have really thought of everything, we were so impressed. There is so much attention to detail, from the fantastic, well equipped kitchen, to the luxurious bath and comfy living areas. It is homely and yet luxurious. The beds were the most comfortable in years! All this in really beautiful surroundings too. The castle estate itself is amazing and the general area is fantastic - loads of gorgeous beaches to explore. The owners were really friendly and on hand to help when needed. Included in our stay was the opportunity to plant trees to offset our carbon footprint. Magic! We'll definitely be back next year - a really relaxing break and loads more to see and do.

Room Tip: The Servants Quarters has 3 bedrooms so good for families. Its also nice to stay in the castle itsel...

We are very pleased that you had such a good time and thank you for your comments. It is always great to get feedback - good or bad! It is a shame that the planned wood burning hot tub and wood burning barrel sauna isn't yet in place down by the river, however this is due in Janauary so you will need to come back and try them out - exclusive to residents of the Servants' Quarters and our very own "Eco River Spa"!! Feedback from those staying in the apartment has been excellent to date, and we do hope you will spread the word! See you next year, Niall and Team.

We've just returned home from a fantastic week in the lovely Garden Cottage! This is a great "home from home" - spacious and very comfortable, in wonderful surroundings ... and as for the Kintyre scenery - absolutely gorgeous!!! The cottage is very well-stocked with everything you could need ... and we loved the hot tub!! Many thanks to everyone for making us so welcome - nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so friendly. We're already planning our next visit!! Oh, and we can definitely recommend the Haggis Hunt - see Niall for details!!!

Thank you for the great review and only too happy to assist - especially with the 'Haggis Hunt'! Hope the ash wood turns ok and you manage to make a couple of bowls. Plenty more from where that came! Thanks again, and see you next time. Niall
