just spent one night at the hotel for a wedding and although the surroundings are lovely the staff were less than helpful. Check in took ages and the receptionist on duty was busy arguing with another wedding guest over the cost of the room when I arrived. Nobody offered any assistance with luggage despite being a single female traveller and the room situated in an out building. The wedding party took over the whole of the lobby and front of the hotel and other guests appeared less than pleased. The room was average but clean. Breakfast was very good and the staff in bar/restaurant good. Shop around for the best price when booking and DO NOT book direct with hotel as I was ripped off.

Have just returned from simply the best weekend break my girlfriend and I have ever had. The Hotel is charming and beautiful, just outside Edinburgh but surrounded by lovely gardens, The food was delicious they have a wonderful fine dining style restaurant in the historic tower part of the Hotel and a Steakhouse which we visited on the second night. The leisure club was first class as was the spa treatment my girlfriend had. The prices all round were reasonable and the staff faultless. We cant wait to go back later in the year a must stay Hotel if you are going to Edinburgh.

Excellent service, lovely surroundings, fine dining and very comfortable room. The location is superb with walled gardens and birds singing outside your window. The staff were first class from reception to restaurant staff and the quality of food was outstanding at dinner and breakfast.
The only small drawback could be that the room was in an outbuilding so if it had been raining we would have got wet going to the main building.

Really lovely hotel whose main assets, apart from its beautiful historical buildings, are its staff, its restaurant, its excellent breakfast, and its proximity to Edinburgh. Get a DB and B rate (try laterooms) and you really can't go wrong. We ate in the Tower restaurant and had the best fine dining experience we've ever had - our 2 teenage children were really welcomed in the hotel and they loved the experience. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really excellent quality and set you up for the day. The hotel pool was great and the children really enjoyed it. They can swim on their own over the age of 13 which they loved. Its quick to get into Edinburgh (on the M8) and a great choice for a day out. I agree the bar prices are very steep - but forewarned and you should be able to pick wisely! Get a good rate and you can't go wrong here. The rooms have DVD players so you can even take your own movies along. We had a great time!

    • Disliked — Radiator didn't work but they had already left a great heater and we were too hot! Nice touch.

“Fantastic experience!!!!!!!!”

A few friends and I stayed at the hotel over the weekend and I would just like to say that it is by far the best hotel in the area. We were greeted by pleasant and helpful staff that were more than accommodating to our every need. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well equipped. The breakfast was great with a fantastic choice of hot and cold food. I would definitley reccommend this to anyone!
