It was the second night of our honeymoon, and we wanted somewhere nice to stay in Uig, close to the ferry port where we would be getting the 9.40am ferry to Tarbert the following morning. It was a toss up between the Uig Hotel and the Ferry Inn, and because we only wanted it for one night, opted for the cheaper option ... wish we'd stayed at the Uig Hotel!

Arrived after a long drive from Carlisle (where we'd spent the first night) and just wanted a relaxing evening with some nice food. They showed us to the room which was dingy, and was so warm throughout the whole evening that we didn't get a good night's sleep (and the bed was rock hard too). We decided to eat at the Ferry Inn on that evening and it wasn't awful, but just ok - nothing that stood out as being terrible or good.

I'm glad we weren't expecting luxury as we'd have been very disappointed, and for a brief one night stop-over it did the job.

When we arrived back from Lewis to continue our holiday in a cottage in Kilmuir, we frequented the Ferry Inn on our return journeys around Skye for a quick pint - that hit the spot every time :-)

I'm somewhat surprised at the hostility of the reviews here because my friend and I arrived at the Ferry Inn without a reservation and were very happy with our one night there. The innkeeper (not expecting anyone) had stepped out and so the staff (working to prepare dinner) stepped away and took care of us, showing us to a twin room that suited our needs just fine. In fact, the bathroom was large with a modern shower "glass curtain" that I admired. The beds were comfortable and we heard no noises at all other than someone going into their room after we tuned in, As for locale, the views out the front picture window from the restuarant were just stunning and the food (I had the Morrocan chicken dish) excellent. When we did meet the innkeeper, she was very attentive, kind and friendly. I would return to the Ferry Inn.

“No room at the bar”

Ferry Inn

May 4, 2008

Having a developed a thirst by getting lost in the woods earlier that day we set off in search of liquid refreshment. In the distance we spotted an Inn as the place was lit up like Christmas tree we were convinced that we had found the top spot in Uig. We were greeted by the owner who looked shocked that we would want to have a drink in her bar, didn't we know that they shut at 9? She had no staff to serve us (2 people) and we should therefore trek another mile into town to the local dive bar...goodnight. Not the friendly island welcome that you'd expect. We were informed that the ownders are selling up. I am glad thaty have realised that hospitality isn't their forte!

The photo's on the website were appealing and at £76 a night we had hopes for something a bit special.

After a long drive we arrived at The Ferry Inn which looked very quaint and charming from the outside. Tired we were shown to our very small room (number 6) - which was clean but faded and sparse.. not exactly luxurious for the price, we felt somewhat disappointed, but tired and exhausted it would have to do.

We filled the stained old plastic kettle for a cup of tea, its a small gesture but even at the humblest B&B you are greeted with biscuits - not here, even at these inflated prices.

It was six o clock and we lay down on the bed to relax, only to hear loud noises from below - clattering, strange bleepings and voices - we were above the kitchen preparing the evening meals and could hear everything. I went down to ask if we could move to another room - nothing doing, no apologies when I explained we were tired and had driven a long way - just "well I have been working from six o'clock this morning" - we were told the noises would stop at 9 and we would not hear a pin drop.

At 4am I was awoken by the sound of the toilet flushing next door accompanied by the whirring noise of the ventilation fan. Loud clunking and voices as people prepared to leave, the fan stayed on till dawn.

The bed was lumpy and too small for an average sized person. You can hear conversations (and toilet activities) through the walls and no. 6 comes complete with the kitchen ambience in the room. At breakfast (which was fine) we heard others joking about the size of the beds and hearing other peoples conversations.

Not recommended.

We left a day early, found a lovely B&B for £48 a night, lovely courteous and caring landlady, large comfy bed (with a heated blanket :) quiet, sea views, a brand new clean kettle and shortbread biscuits !!
