We have just returned from a three night stay at the Ullinish County Lodge and enjoyed a very special time that will always be remembered.
'Exactly as it says on the tin' - a small, comfortable and relaxed home from home and well worth the journey. Expect excellent hospitality and service and you won't be disappointed. Brian and Pam extend a warm welcome to their guests and are clearly experienced hoteliers, evident right through to the small finishing touches and attention to detail. Others in the trade agree as the walls are adorned with recent awards and achievements. The hotel enjoys a stunning location with fabulous views and it's remoteness is endearing. We couldn't fault our stay in any way and look forward to a return visit in the future.

“Superb stay”

We have just enjoyed a week at Ullinish Lodge, and had a superb time. The hotel is excellent; Pam and Brian create an atmosphere that is friendly and totally relaxing, and we can't think of anything that could have been bettered.

We booked before reading the review posted on 6th February and were a little concerned by the comment about the 'lack of vegetables', as we're both vegetarians! We needn't have worried, as a carefully thought out vegetarian menu was available each evening. The food was both imaginative and extremely tasty. Every dish was a work of art!

Plenty of hot water throughout our stay, so no problems there either. We rate our stay at Ullinish as one of the very best weeks holiday we've had!

“With or without hot water?”

Ullinish Lodge Hotel

We stayed at Ullinish for the weekend for a special family celebration. We know the Isle of Skye very well and arrived with excited anticipation at the prospect of Ullinish after the good reviews on Tripadvisor. The location is magical and the accommodation is very clean and comfortable. We were however, a little surprised at the cool welcome from the proprietor who found it difficult to manage a smile. More energy went into explaining the limitations of the bathroom facilities, which demanded limited movement in the roll top baths to avoid flooding downstairs?!! We had dinner at Ullinish on our first night and whilst the chef obviously goes to great lengths to be experimental and innovative, we were disappointed not see more local produce and traditional scottish fare. The smoked salmon soup was delicious but the sweetcorn icecream requried a particular palette...and there was a total lack of vegetables. We chose, after our first night, to dine at the Three Chimneys, and would disagree with an earlier review making any comparison. Our meal at the Three Chimneys was superlative beyond description and would highly recommend.
After an evening and a morning without hot water, an apology either at the time or on departure would have been welcomed.
The proprietors are making a great effort to promote Ullinish, however, if you're looking for a taste of Skye and a warm highland welcome you may be disappointed.

“A terrific romantic getaway stay”

Ullinish Lodge Hotel

My b/f booked a night at the Ullinish Lodge for a romantic getaway in the Isle of Skye. I have to say how impressed we were with the place. For one, the view of the Cuillins is terrific as was the view from our room. The proprietors are on the more formal side and after settling into our room we were served tea in the lounge. An earlier review was a lack of books in the lounge which is true but will probably grow as people stay and leave things behind. However there was a formal chess table in the lounge. The decor is comfortable antique and very tastefully done. We stayed in the Harport room which had a very nice view on the Cuillins but is on the small side. We think it's normally a room for 2 twin beds and not the king we had. The bathroom was very nice with a terrific shower that had great water pressure and adjustable temperature. The toiletries were also very nice, the brand I can not recall but some upscale stuff from London. My only bad remarks would be the ventilation in the bathroom was not great (no on/off switch), it was hard to find a plug for my hairdryer and the windows don't open well in the rooms. Not a problem for the time of year we were there but possibly in summer. The rooms are incredibly comfortable and quiet but there was only one other couple there in a room on the opposite side. The REALLY great part of our stay was the edible one. The six-course meal is not cheap (£39.50) but worth every penny. We were served canapes in the lounge with our first drink and the reviews are correct. Chef Bruce Morrison does some really creative gourmet dishes. Some canapes consisted of quail egg, foie gras and caviar. The starters and mains were delicious (I had large prawn and b/f had roasted pigeon) and there was an apricot/curry bread and red pepper rolls that were amazing. My fave was the popcorn panacotta with space dust... yummy AND fun to eat. After dessert, coffee and petite fours were served in the lounge. We were too full to indulge. And the breakfast was just as great in the morning and I was totally impressed with the fresh fruit/produce options for the remote location and time of year. The restaurant is open to the public so if you are in the area its definitely worth trying out. Not only would we recommend the Ullinish Lodge to others we plan to stay again over the summer.

We found this hotel on the internet when looking for somewhere for a Saturday night. We thought about6 3 chimneys, but they don't do Sat only bookings and this had good reviews .
The hotel has been beautifully renovated by the new owners who are trying hard to please guests.
The rooms were beautifully furnished with sweets, sherry, fruitbowl in addition to the usual stuff.
The evening meal was amazing value, 6 excellent courses for £39. Go for dinne if not to stay if you are in Skye. No children allowed under 16 and no pets.
There was a shortage of books, but I'm sure a library will develop with time. The owners do have a supply of sheets with recommended walks you can borrow.
It is well situated for visiting the Cuillins or the coastline.
