I arrived to be met by the manager telling me that I had booked 2 rooms and not the 1 room I had. There followed a stand-off at reception with him finally conceding that he wouldn't charge me for 2 rooms - needless to say it didn't create the best initial impression.

The room (Flora MacDonald's cottage) was nice enough - decor a bit tired. Food was average but very overpriced. Seafood poor. The next night be ate at a lovely restaurant in Portree for less than half the price.

Overall, I wouldn't recommment this hotel which is a shame as the views are spectacular.

For several years, we used to go to the Flod and loved it. So this year after a five year gap, we thought we would go back to what had been one of favourite places. It was a shame, overall what had been a lovely place has grown tired, worn and lost a lot of its sparkle. This was in all areas: for example The conservatory had been a great place to have a meal, but now consisted of a rather poorly constructed 'modern' extension, no longer serving meals, and for a sun room now consisted of dusty plastic plants! Much of the furnishings were very tired, or damaged, from small things like the doorstep in the restaurant, to the odd non matching bathroom fittings. With regard to the food, well for 'silver service' I think read pub food. Perfectly edible but not what is really advertised. Staff were both good and bad, some very helpful, others seemed to be stressed by being asked the most basic of requests. So in summary a poor to OK place, but given what I noted is currently being shown in various brochures, this hotel is not what it was and certainly not what it is currently being advertised as.

Beautifully located, food good but expensive, the big let down was the cost of a glass of house wine - cost me £4!!

While we didn't stay at the hotel, we had one very good pub meal at the Flodigarry's, and it came highly recommended by our B&B in Kilmuir. There is actually both a restaurant and a pub at the hotel. We chose to eat at the pub as the prices were a bit cheaper and we were not sure if we were dressed appropriately for such an elegant restaurant. We had a super pub meal and enjoyed the atmosphere of the pub, the bilingual Gaelic/English signs, and the view of the water and surrounding hills. Even at the pub, the prices were a bit more than we were used to paying, but it was a great experience. The fish and chips I had were nicely done with local fish. My husband had the lagostinos' which were close to 25GBP (definately not the cheapest meal to have! )but he very much enjoyed them, and they were different from anything we have here in the US. Even my son's pasta dish was very tasty. Very enjoyable meal if you are willing to splurge a bit, and a lovely atmostphere.

I carefully planned a special day for our 40th wedding anniversary, which happened during a three-week trip to Scotland. I had reserved, been confirmed for, and paid for a particular room. We were given a different room; I just checked my confirmation email and I was correct—they messed up. We could not have the correct room because other people were there. So we were told we would have the best table in the dining room at dinner. What a lie! We went to dinner in a completely empty dining room except that another couple was seated at our table. And the dinner was nothing out of the ordinary. We were told too bad. Every other place for three weeks was great. This was the only dud.
