“Rural Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

Having stayed at Eilean Iarmain a few years ago it was a no-brainer when it came to choosing somewhere to have our wedding. We wanted something small, intimate and away from it all. Our friends and family travelled from all over the UK and were delighted with the hotel, not to mention Skye itself.
The staff at the hotel couldn't have done enough to make our big day a genuinely special one. Every single detail was catered for, from a last minute decision to have the wedding ceremony outside (due to the amazing weather), to table decorations and to keeping the guests entertained while we were having our photos taken.
We'd given the kitchen carte blanche when it came to the menu, only specifying that scallops (locally sourced) and venison (from the local estate) were included somewhere. They really came up trumps, the food was incredible and EVERYONE raved about it.
As we had taken over the whole hotel after the band finished in the bar at closing time the staff were happy for us to move through to the lounge to continue celbrating into the wee small hours. The staff made sure we had everything we needed before they went home for the night (after 2am).
All in all it was the most wonderful weekend which we (and our friends and family) will never forget. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are unique and furnished with antique furniture.

We've been there just for one night and it was so nice and tidy that we booked an other night! Located in a quiet and lovely place, this is perfect if you are looking for a relaxing place to stay. A little pub next door provide excellent food and ambiance. There is as well a very professional and helpful team who will be available for you. We will come back for sure.

I was part of a group that decided on this hotel for a work night out, we initially had decided to book a Christmas dinner but on arrival there was no table reserved or set up for the meal, I assume this was down to a breakdown in communication, so we opted for a bar meal and drinks, I decided on the starter of haggis, neeps and tatties which came served in a large cold dished plate, small dollops of each is the best way to describe this uninspiring dish which was also luke warm so not the best of starts, the main course of Haddock and chips was also fairly disappointing, the haddock was quite greasy and for some reason you get a vast amount of frozen peas, perhaps to fill the plate, overall not the best dining experience.

One other note was the bar staff seemed to think that any drink being mixed with coke had to be filled to the brim with soda stream cola, still at 50p a dash you get your monies worth, lastly the live music arrived as advertised which consisted of two accordions and one lad on a single drum, however once they started you could not speak to your neighbour due to the volume of the trio,
best part of the night unfortunately was the taxi home, perhaps we just picked the wrong night.

Unfortunately our stay was for one night only. Friends on Skye had organised a great room in the hotel building itself with gorgeous views over the loch. Dinner was a treat and the following day's breakfast was excellent value. All the staff were great and made you feel at home. Their home-made oatcakes are the best and on leaving had to ask to take some home! :)

Stayed here as part of a week touring the highlands, unfortunately the weather wasn't kind to us but it didn't detract from the beauty of the place, and as Billy Connolly stated "there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes" and thankfully we had the right clothes. We did change our choice of room to a suite, so we had a TV as the hotel rooms don't have them, wouldn't normally be a problem but as it was November and dark early we decided it would be better for us. The view from the suite the next morning was breathtaking, watching the sun rise over the mountains was memorable. Breakfast is served in the conservatory, nice selection of cold buffet, with cereals, cheeses, and pastries, then there is also the option of a cooked breakfast. The hotel has a cosy lounge area with comfy settees and a log fire and we found all the staff very friendly and welcoming, we particularly liked the "antipodean" lady ! We ate in the bar and couldn't fault the food but our only complaints would be that the smoke from the log fire in the bar was almost overpowering and the seats really need reupholstering, but if returning we would definately stay here again and would recommend it to friends

I stayed here for a couple of nights having last visited 10 years before. The location is fabulous and the hotel looks great, though staying in November the weather is always going to be variable. My room was in annex and had great views, no tv in room, which could be an issue if you are going to be in your room early. Main issue was that having stayed in the bar til around 11pm, on going back to room the heating was turned off and the room was freezing! As the reception was closed nobody was around to help out! At breakfast next morning the breakfast room was also freezing, really in November on Skye the hotel should be toasting this was very disappointing.
Next day hotel had heating turned on ok, but it was a cold uncomfortable first night, i expected more. Second night i had dinner in bar and asked for steak, but hotel had run out so I asked for haggis neeps and tatties for a main course. When it arrived it was in some pre-prepared format in layers with haggis on bottom, then neeps then potato on top in circular tube. Looked ok but was warm on outside and stone cold on inside! After complaining hotel replaced it with another which this time was incinerated with haggis carbonised on outside. It was obviously, and disappointingly, pre-prepared and microwaved. The hotel offered the food for free and a free beer to their credit, but really I expected freshly prepared dishes cooked to order. All in all an average experience and annoying as I had a colleague with me and we had stayed here on my
recommendation. I would think twice about staying again.

My husband and I chose Eilean Iarmain to host our intimate wedding reception. We could not have made a better decision. It was the best day of our lives made perfect, in no small part, by the attentions of the staff at the hotel. The rooms are lovely, setting stunning and the food delicious but the staff made us feel so welcome and really added something that money can't buy - sincerity.
We loved every moment of our stay and our guests were blown away with our choice of venue.
We cannot wait to return for our first anniversary - I think we're starting a tradition...
An enormous thank you to Neil, Flora and the team for a magical stay - and the best venison I've eaten in my life!
