“Good hotel, great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 6 nights in early June. The hotel is in a great location with a lovely view. It is decorated in a modern style which is interesting. We were advised when we booked (at short notice) that the room would be small, no view etc so no surprises when it was exactly as described. The staff were all lovely in their different ways - especially David, Morag and Fiona - and made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Nothing was too much effort. The food was generally good, especially breakfast. The only slight issues were the bedside lights (stylish but you needed to get up to reach the off switch), the fixed shower (cold drenching when you turn it on) and the lack of those little extras (magnifying mirror, cotton buds etc) that you always need but forget to pack. As is often the case, we suspect the form took precedence over function when designing the room. But these are minor gripes and we would be more than happy to stay here again.

The first thing that you notice is the pristine , divine decor. It really is superb. But the really important thing for us is how excellent the staff are -they are exceptionally welcoming and make you feel very special. It was such a wonderful change after some of the hotels we have stayed in over 4 weeks.Special mention to David at front of House, and Morag, Grace and Lisa. They are all excellent in their approach to guest relations.Congratulations to owners John and Anne.

Breakfast and the Bar food was 1st class. We stayed the 1st night down the road at Toravag House which was equally good although the rooms are smaller and it doesn't have a Bar menu ,although you can go up to Duisdale House.Again, the staff are excellent

One suggestion would be that the comfort of beds and pillows could match the overall ambience of such a wonderful place.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the water is perfect

Arrived mid pm, rainy & cold....not a prob...warm welcome & a fire on in a beautiful sitting room, lots of sofas, chairs and a cracking view of the loch. Went for a walk (in the rain) up through the woods& around the gardens. Have to say that the menu was inspired. Had the most wonderful dinner in the conservatory .....yummmmmm with stars !!! The staff are brilliant & really just make it all soooo comfortable. We were only here for 1 night B&B but would definitely recommend for more

We stayed here for two nights 24/25 May 13. We tried to book cheaper accom but due to the lateness of our booking we were left with a choice of places with rooms that received bad reviews or some of the top end establishments like this one. We had a superior double on second floor with views of the sea. Room was nice - could sit in bed and look at view. There was a fridge, tea and coffee (only instant) making facilities but only wee cartons of long life blue milk. Would have liked semi skimmed at least and, as there was a fridge, fresh would have been nice for the price. As per other reviews we could not get the wifi to work as it kept dropping the signal.
Food was very nice - we ate the £45 per head both nights and it was lovely. Staff were very attentive, polite and helpful. The two nights cost £680 once food and wine were added so whilst it sounds niggly for that price I would expect good wifi, fresh milk and filter coffee in the rooms. A few wee touches like that would make this great because the staff attitude was great.

We booked a sea view room which was very comfortable with an especially comfortable bed. Everything was spotlessly clean. The main reason for our trip was wildlife watching. Just a two night reconnaissance mission. After being out in the rain for hours we did not want to get dressed up and sit in a formal restaurant. We requested to eat in the bar both nights. Although the staff were all very nice we had terrible service, waiting ages to get a second drink. No one seemed to be on duty in the bar. On the second night we sat and ordered in the bar and were then taken to the restaurant to eat where we felt very uncomfortable. I'm sure one doesn't need to dress up but that's not how we are made, which was why we had requested the bar. We got the feeling everything is geared to the 5 course £45 meal and we did not fit into their plan. The waiting on staff gave the impression that they were understaffed. There was no opportunity to ask for anything to accompany the meal as the waiting staff were practically walking away before they'd put the plate down.
Nice place
The worst chips I've ever eaten
Don't get carried away with your rosettes and ignore the basics
£4 for a coffee? Are you serious or was that a misprint?
Double the price of other places we stayed of a similar quality

Our children gave us a voucher for a night at the Duisdale House Hotel for Christmas and we finally used it this weekend. We had booked an ordinary room but were upgraded to the Garden Suite on arrival. This is a separate chalet in the grounds a few yards away from the main building. Everything was very nice, however the furniture was a bit of a mixture of ages and styles and gave the impression that it might be older furniture from the main hotel.

We made use of the hot tub despite it not being the warmest of days!

We stayed to eat at the Duisdale despite it being £45 per head. A bottle of rose wine could set you back £98!! (though you could get a bottle of red for £25)

Food was good, very chefy and portions were equally small.

Service was on the whole pretty good but at times a little too informal given the attempt to place the hotel at the top end of the market.

Would I go back? Probably not at the prices currently being charged.

Stayed here for only one night unfortunately. We had booked a 'cosy double' but ended up in the comfortable Garden Suite which suited us very nicely. We also booked a session in the hot tub which we thoroughly enjoyed after getting over the initial apprehension at finding it right beneath the bar/restaurant decking! Luckily there was noone else out there to scare on this particular day! we decided to take dinner in the restaurant as we couldn't be bothered moving far and we enjoyed the set 5 course meal very much although have to say that even at fine dining standards, at £45, the courses were rather skimpy.I even missed the 'black pudding' on my 'pork belly', didn't realise that was the black crumbs on the plate! Not for a hearty appetite. Nevertheless, a treat.
Very comfortable beds - didnt want to getup .Hotel is very comfortable and stylish decor I think there may have been a new intake of Staff for the season or something as sometimes the waiting service was a bit casual for the fine dining surroundings but it didnt spoil our stay.
Will hope to return soon for some more lovely relaxation.

Room Tip: For extra space and privacy, book the Garden Suite
