We have spent our vacation in April 2007 in Scottland, we have chance to stay 2 nighs in Portree, as we did not book hotel in advance and it seems that we can not find a hotel to stay for the first niht. We just walked in to the Pink Hotel at Portree port with a small hope to get a room. Luckly, we got one sea view room.
We were enjoy our stay at the hotel and location of the hotel, there are several good sea food restrarant around. Also, hospitality of David--the hotel owner. I would recommend to stay in Pink hotel, as you can stay in the hotel which are shown in most of the photo of portree port but book in advance, I am not sure that you can be lucky like us to get the room without booking.

Just returned from a couple of days in Skye and two nights in the Pink Guest House. Were advised beforehand that we would have a family room as there were no doubles left. This was fine with us and room quite clean and comfortable. Breakfast fine and Slovakian waitress was excellent - very attentive without being overpowering. We were on the ground floor in an annexe just along from the main entrance. Advised owner that the front door was quite noisy as clients had to bang it quite forcefully to close it. Owner said that this was deliberate as several guests had been leaving it open. This was the only way to make sure it was shut! Hotel has perfect position on the pier and would not hesitate to return.

My daughter and I loved our stay at "The Pink Guest House". I knew we would be arriving late and David was there outside awaiting our arrival. It was just as I imagined it would be... We shared a pretty room with sea views; it was an excellent value and a great location! We chose Portree on the Isle of Skye which is centrally located to many day trips all over Skye. There is great public transpotation and it is very easy to get around. David and his staff were very welcoming. There was a nice living room where you could read and hop on your lap top; also with water views. The breakfast was excellent as well and you could have as little or as much as you'd like plenty to satisfy an early hike!
I did want to see the other rooms as I hope to go back with my husband and other family members...There are rooms for all necessities. Every shop had post cards of our guest house and we felt very lucky to have stayed there; David suggested we hike out to Neist Point and I have to say that it was gorgeous!

Be ready to be asked for the money as soon as you enter the premises, before you even see your room or even before you arrive (ridiculous in such a tiny place).
The room agreed via email by the owner ( sea view) was actually a room on the groung floor facing a mouldy wall, the room carpet was all stained and the room smelt of mould.
As soon as you enter the room you hit a night table with the door, which is inappropriately situated.
The breakfast room and the whole area shared by guest smells of burnt oil, having the next dood kitchen no door or fan, cheapest ingredients for breakfast (cooked or not). From the outside the place looks lovely...but inside not so much.
