I was a bit wary of staying at the Isles Inn after reading previous reviews but I was plesantly surprised! The property is not a hotel, it's a pub with accommodation - therefore you cannot expect the same standards that you would recieve at a hotel. The rooms are a good size and tastefully decorated - ours had a lovely 4 poster bed and both the bedroom and the shower room were immaculate. There are tea/coffee making facilities, a television and the inn is in an excellent location for exploring Portree. I stupidly forgot to bring my hairdryer and when we asked at the bar if they had one we could use we were told that they didnt know where it was - that was my only complaint but like I said, its not a hotel. Breakfast was delish - very impressed!! We very much enjoyed our stay at the Isles Inn and if we are ever back in Portree will not hesitate to book there again - great value for money!

Thankyou very much for your great review, we have had some horrible ones just recently and I was appalled by them. We are, as you so rightly pointed out, an inn, not a hugely expensive modern hotel and our rooms are nice. Sorry about the hairdryer I am in the process of putting them in the rooms, we do have 2 but they are kept in the housemaids cupboard, If it was a boy you asked, they never seem to know no matter how many times I telll them! Thankyou once again.

“Unpleasant Stay”

The Isles Inn

My wife and I just stayed two nights at the Isles Inn. It is the worst accomodation we have ever stayed in. Unhelpful staff, no one to bother even showing us to our room which was tiny and filthy to boot. When arriving we had to clamber past painters working in the narrow staircaises and a woman pressing pillowcases in the middle of the hall on a large machine - no matter, we are not that fussy.! The price was inflated to a ridiculous £45.00 per person per night which makes it the worst value stay ever.

Cannot say anyting positive about this place. Stay away.

This very pleasant couple stayed with us, ate with us and at no time gave any indication they were unhappy. After they had paid on their final morning the lady told me that she thought our housemaids were not cleaning the rooms properly as they had not polished her bedside table! I apologised and before i could do any thing else they left. I spoke to the housemaids and reminded them that they were to polish all wooden surfaces in the rooms, stay as well as goes.
We have had one painter who through the day has been painting the top corridor, in the early part of the day so as not to disturb people staying. Unfortunately maintainence is always ongoing, The girls ironing the pillowcases were not in the middle of the hall but in their normal place outside the laundry on the 1st floor, we do all our linen inhouse as I believe it is better for the environment rather than sending the laundry away to an industrial factory. The normal price in July and August is £45 per person, per night and we are in fact at the lower end in pricing alot of the surrounding hotels are more. The room is a normal sized bedroom with ensuite, we are not a modern hotel but an Inn built several hundred years ago, and why stay and extra night if they were not happy.

Read these reviews and can't believe I have just stayed in the same place. Stayed 3 nights my room was clean, serviced every day and the staff were nothing short of brilliant. Ate there twice on both occasions great food, scallops to die for an a majestic steak. It was very busy, there was a pipe band festival on, the staff were run off their feet but always took the time to answer any queries and help. Brilliant stay and will definately come again.

“Rude staff”

This place stands out as the single most inhospitable experience in my Scottish holiday. After rudeness, i encountered indifference. The ambience is not worth recommending either.

This weekend was the pipe band festival and the isles along with every other establishment was extremely busy. Unfortunately people who come to the bar want to be served immediately whether it is their turn or not all I can say was I was there the whole week-end and my staff were 1st rate. They were under a lot of pressure plus under scottish licensing laws we are not allowed to serve people who have obviously had too much to drink, we tell them nicely to come back another day, some people do not like to be refused.

The place has a wonderful location. Wish they would do something about their staff - the people that we dealt with were untrained, inefficient and rude.

Definitely not worth a visit!

All I can say again is that this is not true, our staff are under a lot of pressure and always perform brilliantly. As for our food well we get a lot more compliments than anything else. The usual complaint is that we have given them too much! Plus why not say if they are unhappy with their food? On the rare occasion someone says they do not like the dish (usually haggis because they don't know what it is) we don't charge them. Again you cannot please everyone.
