We stayed at the Inn, and wished we had'nt.
Arrived just after nine in the evening. told we were too late for food. given a key and told what room we were in. Had to ask the way. Staff seemed rude and uninterested.
When we entered our room . It was so dingy, the so called four poster bed was very wobbly, mattress thin and lumpy, pillows even thiner.
Room was cold, toilet was nosiey all night.
No milk provided for hot drink in room and did'nt fancy going down to the bar in my nightie.
I felt we had been ripped off. we were supposed to stay 2 nights but checkout the following morning £80 lighter. Plus point was my husband said the breakfast was good.
Booked into the Cullin Hills Hotel. yes it was £110 a night but worlds apart and well worth every penny, food was fantastic , The service excellent.
We will go back to Portree and will stay at the Cullin Hills again

Unfortunately we have to have a closing time for the kitchen, if some-one advises they are going to be late we try to accommodate them these people did not and the kitchen was closed and the chefs gone. It is not a so called 4 poster - it is a 4 poster and I am sorry that they were unhappy with their room. Lack of milk I again apologise for, which was obviously an oversight on the housemaids part. The heating is on till 10-11pm when it is cold. Re directions, there is a door in the bar stating 'rooms' and a staircase behind it, if we have time the staff show people to the room but if they are busy they cannot always do so, and to be honest the route to the bedrooms is raher self-explanatory. I would be interested to see where they got £80 cost from, as that is the price we charge in July, in april the price is between £25 & £30 per person. As the review below so rightly states we are an inn, we are not expensive and I have also have eaten at the Cuillin Hills, and it is a shame they didn't get a chance to eat here as they would have realised how good our food is at a fraction of the cost! The Cuillin Hills is a large hotel we are an inn but If they are happy paying an extra £50 a night then I am surprised they booked into an inn in the 1st place.

“lovely little pub, nice room”

With an average skye price of £35 pp b&b i thought the isles inn was the perfect place to stay to get out & explore skye. The pub itself was lovely and cosy, with a really nice atmosphere. Perfect for sitting by the fire with a pint when the rain starts! There were always locals in the bar/resturant which i think speaks volmes. The breakfast was spot on, the evening menu was varied and the portions enormous!!
Our room was simple but clean and comfy. Onsuite shower was satisfactory - no complaints about cold water or poor heating from us!
All in all the Isles inn is nothing fancy, but for this price bracket you cant expect hotel standards.

“Good inn but rather chilly”

The Isles Inn

Mar 7, 2008

I stayed in this inn in January, when much of the other accommodation in Portree was closed. I found it to be really satisfactory, though a little bit cold.

Firstly the location of the Isles Inn is perfect. It is in the main square and there is a car park directly in front. We simply went in and asked if they had a room for that night. However I imagine that it is much busier in summer.

The room itself was very comfortable with a (simple) four poster bed in it. The only real downside, however, was that, despite a form of double glazing, the room proved to be really quite cold.

We also ate in the Inn that evening and I thought the food was delicious, especially the mushroom soup. I also enjoyed a pint of the local beer and a nip of Talisker.

Portree is a lovely place but we were disappointed with the Isles Inn from the start.
Despite having phoned and confirming by letter ,on arrival we were told one of the agreed ensuite rooms could not be provided and we had to change.
On the second evening ,which was very cold,we returned to find there was no heating in the rooms. The only staff in charge were two very young people behind the bar. The girl was as helpful as she could be, and contacted management by phone, who told us there was a fault and that the plumber would be called to repair it.
We were in bed when a young barman arrived with an electric oil filled radiator.
Next morning there was no hot water.Had to have a cold shower.
That woke us up!!
At breakfast we overheard some American guests arranging to move immediately to other accommodation.
That afternoon management told us that they had run out of heating oil but delivery would be by 5pm.
Unfortunately there was still no heating that night except for the electric radiator.
Luckily I was able to have a hot shower next morning but this ran cold before my partner had hers! Our towels decreased each day until we were left with just one hand towel on the last morning.
The pub part of the Inn was quite good with local Scottish entertainment and a real fire(luckily?) Breakfast was OK.
The rooms were clean but tired looking.
To be fair we were given £20 off our bill of £180 without asking.
Staff seemed to have too littleexperience to be left in charge and we will not be staying there again.

We had two rooms and stayed 3 nights Sept 2007. The first night & day was uneventfull but the following morning there was no hot water in the shower and the heat was non-existent in the room. We were told that the plumber was called to fix the issue but later found out that there was no oil for the heating. (There was also no electricity on the second floor.) The next day there was some warmth in the shower but still no heat in the room. Fortunately for one of the rooms there was a space heater. We did complain about it. One of the staff members apologized and another argued that it was impossible that there was no hot water. Regardless, throughout our stay we never did see management and it was the young staff that were made to deal with everything. (including another issue with towels being forgotten in one of the rooms) We were given a 10 pound discount - not worth it!!

I was actually on holiday when this happened (in spain) so it was quite hard for me to appear in person! We did not run out of oil, the pump broke down, and we called a plumber straight away unfortunately we had to wait for him to get to us. We did have a delivery of oil that day, but it is delivered every month so that we don't run out! I actually spoke to them on the phone because they demanded to speak to me and I explained the situation, the gentleman informed me he 'knew about plumbing' unfortunately not enought to produce a viable pump! They were apologised to profusely, given an electric radiator to heat the room and told to keep it on all night if needed, and given a discount. . As they stayed an extra night I can only presume that you cannot please everybody.
