My wife and I were very impressed with the Cally. The room was lovely & warm and the shower was superb. The whole hotel and our room were spotlessly clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was of a very high standard, certainly amongst the best we've had in Portree. Superb cooked breakfast. Very nice bar and the best pint of John Smiths Bitter outside of Yorkshire.
We have no hesitation in recommending the Cally to anyone visiting Portree.

“Pleasant stay”

My wife and i found the Urquart Caledonian after being blown away at the condition of the place we were actually booked into - thanks UC you saved our trip- not a stunning hotel but CLEAN, also in beautiful surroundings food was good, staff were all nicely turned out and polite to a tee (at breakfast too - had some grumpy ones in our time) all in all a pleasant stay in a pleasant hotel, as i said it wasnt our first choice so we were on a downer when we arrived but by the end of dinner we had cheered up no end, the brisk scottish morning and beautiful clouds lingering on the mountains until mid afternoon were spectacular and i'll remember this stay because of that - we may even come again. Great work - some other hotels ive been to could learn alot fromthe Urquart Caledonian.

The people at the Caledonian were among the friendliest and most helpful we found in Scotland. The best thing about the Caledonian is that it is in the middle of Portree, a very nice harbor city on the Isle of Skye where a "town" is defined as any community with more than one crofters house and a herd of sheep. The bedroom itself was large and looked out on the lovely Portree harbor. The furnishings were old and worn to some extent but very clean. The beds were adequate but comfortable. My wife who is a very sensitive sleeper had her best night's sleep at the Caledonian. A number of restaurants and shops are right out the front door. I had the best fish and chips meal of my life at a small restaurant on Harbor row - The Lower Deck.

“We'll be back!”

Arrived in Portree late on a Saturday afternoon - like other reviewers tried elsewhere and eventually found the Caledonian. From the outside, it really didn't look anything great. How wrong could we be? What a find! Room was very clean and comfortable - furnishings are relatively new as is the decor. Staff are very helpful and polite and genuinely endeavour to make sure you enjoy your stay. The entertainment in the bar was great (very popular with the locals) - best night we've had in a long time! Really good value - £70 for bed and full cooked breakfast with toast and orange juice. Will definitely be back again soon - next time for longer.

“So helpful and friendly”

Tried more expensive hotels but no vacancies so settled for the Urquhart Caledonian. First impression from outside was slightly worrying but once inside could not have been happier with choice. Full marks for everything. I could not recommend it highly enough. Food, rooms, cleanliness, helpful, friendly staff and situation, all top marks. We will definitely be back.
