Having stayed at two 2* hotels (both excellent) in Tongue and Aultbea on the north and north west coasts of Scotland, we headed for Skye for our first ever visit on 24.5.06
We selected the Bosville Hotel after reading reviews on this site, however the hotel did not come up to expectations promised in the reviews.
A room the size of a postage stamp with a 'very narrow' 4' 6" bed on the second floor. I feel sorry for more elderly guests having to climb narrow stairs with possibly bulky / heavy luggage. Why no lift installed when refurbished?
Walls are paper thin, becareful what you say and do as everyone else will hear everything.
As hotel guests you would expect to be given a nice table for dinner. Having decided to dine in the Bistro, we were seated within the doors right next to the Main front door and reception. Every time the door opened for people to enter, we were subjected to a very cold draft. This was mentioned to staff and jokingly one said they would get a blanket for my wife (she ended up getting her coat from our room). Other tables became free before we were served, but no member of staff suggested or offered to move us. I suppose two guests having paid for a room already, were not as importatnt as passing trade, who all got the non-drafty tables.
The chef was rated as excellent, he obviously does not prepare the potatoes or the other veg. I had the Lamb shank with mash. The mash tasted more like the paste to paper the walls. The breakfast black pudding tasted more like haggis than black pudding.
The hotel was clean, staff friendly and ideally located. If arriving by car, grab a space outside the front door or be prepared to walk.
The hotel spolit what was otherwise an excellent visit to one of Scotlands most beautiful islands.
