We had a great 3 nights at the Bosville in June 2006. Our room was on the back side of the hotel which meant it was quiet. It was quite small, but up to date and clean. The best part was the restaurant which was excellent for dinner and good for breakfast. We also enjoyed time in the pub. The town is small so you can walk to anywhere in town, and there is a nearby walking trail that takes you along hills overlooking the water. Portree is a convenient location from which to explore Skye.

Stayed here in June 2006. Our room on the 2nd floor was attic style but HUGE! king sized bed, heaps of space and coffee tables, desks, side tables and lounge chairs, a gorgeous bathroom, huge black and white chequerboard style floor tiles, huge bath, enormous hot and powerful shower - they could have put another double bed in this bathroom! We spent 2 very comfortable nights here - and at no time did we have trouble finding a park close by. The service was great - previous reviews mentioned foreign staff but we only found locals here and they were warm and welcoming and very helpful. Dinner in the Restaurant, The Chandlery, was outstanding and 2nd night in the Bistro almost as good. Also loved the local kilted musician and his live music after dinner - great entertainment and lots of fun. Loved The Bosville - definitely a highlight stay on our 5 week tour.

“Not as good as claimed”

Having stayed at two 2* hotels (both excellent) in Tongue and Aultbea on the north and north west coasts of Scotland, we headed for Skye for our first ever visit on 24.5.06

We selected the Bosville Hotel after reading reviews on this site, however the hotel did not come up to expectations promised in the reviews.

A room the size of a postage stamp with a 'very narrow' 4' 6" bed on the second floor. I feel sorry for more elderly guests having to climb narrow stairs with possibly bulky / heavy luggage. Why no lift installed when refurbished?

Walls are paper thin, becareful what you say and do as everyone else will hear everything.

As hotel guests you would expect to be given a nice table for dinner. Having decided to dine in the Bistro, we were seated within the doors right next to the Main front door and reception. Every time the door opened for people to enter, we were subjected to a very cold draft. This was mentioned to staff and jokingly one said they would get a blanket for my wife (she ended up getting her coat from our room). Other tables became free before we were served, but no member of staff suggested or offered to move us. I suppose two guests having paid for a room already, were not as importatnt as passing trade, who all got the non-drafty tables.

The chef was rated as excellent, he obviously does not prepare the potatoes or the other veg. I had the Lamb shank with mash. The mash tasted more like the paste to paper the walls. The breakfast black pudding tasted more like haggis than black pudding.

The hotel was clean, staff friendly and ideally located. If arriving by car, grab a space outside the front door or be prepared to walk.

The hotel spolit what was otherwise an excellent visit to one of Scotlands most beautiful islands.

We booked the Bosville for a romantic break, and i have to say we were not disappointed! The bistro (the restaurant was closed for time being) was lovely warm and cosy, the seafood platter was to die for, in fact i had it both nights as it was too delish to resist. The rooms were bright and modern with lots of space and a lovely ensuite bathroom with bath and shower cubicle ( i hate overbath showers). All in all the only fault i found was the parking, it was limited and to be fair we were very lucky to get parked directly in front, but i am sure in high season this would be difficult. But all in all a FAB stay and we will definately return!!!!

We have just returned from a lovely relaxing stay at the Bosville Hotel. The staff were EXTREMELY friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had requested a harbour view and were given this, although the room was very small. Without complaint from us, we were offered a much larger room at the back of the hotel, but the view across to the little painted houses of the harbour and of the snow-capped mountains lured us back to the first room, regardless of its size.
The room decor was first class, and so intent are they on keeping it that way that a tray was provided for outdoor footwear with slippers to change into!
The Chandlery restaurant was closed when we arrived... disappointing for a Saturday evening, but the food in their normal restaurant was delicious. We also found the Merchant Bar to be very welcoming and comfortable with reasonable bar prices.
Breakfast the next morning was served, rather than buffet-style, and was also of a very high standard.
We did not find parking to be a problem at all. There were several spaces just 100 yards from the hotel, down the hill. Also more at the Bank at the bottom of the road.
One little touch we enjoyed was having a glass of wine each left at our door when we returned in the evening. We would definitely return to the Bosville if we return to Skye.
