We had a wonderful stay at Tarven. Maria and Jerry were fantastic hosts and could not do enough for us - offering us lifts into Portree and sharing their local knowledge with us etc. The breakfast was lovely. So much choice - a real feast! The room was lovely and spacious and we can't wait to return.

Have done loads of B&Bs over the years and this rates as one of the highest. From the moment you arrive you feel at home. The accommodation is of the highest standard and the location is ideally situated on the Staffin Road just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Portree. The owner Maria is a great host and went out of her way to ensure that we knew all about accommodation the local area and attractions. When we return to Skye we will certainly book again.

We were tired and thirsty on arrival. Hostess welcomed us warmly and took great care of us. Made to feel at home immediately. Included in some local activities. Hostess went out of her way for us on several occasions. Common room is very comfortable. Would highly recommend Tarven to others.

If you're looking for an anonymous experience in a bland B&B, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a warm, welcoming hostess and a well situated comfortable B&B, you can't do better than this. Maria Fox is the friendliest, most generous soul imaginable. She will go far out of her way to make your stay comfortable and interesting. And she's genuinely likes people. We had the great experience of being invited into her living room for a family sing with her musician husband and his wonderful extended family (accompanied, of course, by a wee dram). It was an experience I will never forget. If I'm ever again in Skye, this is the place I'll stay. We (me, my wife and another couple) all left feeling that we had made a new friend.

Room Tip: All the rooms are just fine.

Situated in a very quite place, but that means some 15-min walk uphill from Portree (OK if you are travelling lightly, but not that easy to carry your things there). The place itself has nice big rooms, wi-fi access etc. The breakfast is not cooked (i.e. hot), but plentiful all the same. Maria, the hostess, is very friendly and extremely helpful. She offered to pick us up in case we were lost somewhere at Skye (cause public transport and taxis can be unreliable), gave us a lift to the bus station on the day of our departure, and on top of it, saved the day as we forgot our video cam at the room: we called her on the phone, and she drove back and brought it to us 5 minutes before our bus left! Maria, thank you once again!
