“Bill, you are the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

My friend and I decided to do this tour while in Scotland, and it was a great decision. Unfortunately, it snowed a great deal the night before we left, however, Bill's astonishing amount of knowledge and his great talent of story telling made the trip unforgettable. Absolutely loved it, I was worried about spending so much time in a van which 12 strangers, but it was really fun. We made enough stops so I didn't feel cramped. It was entertaining and had great views and Bill also teaches you a great deal about Scottish history. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for a small tour (much better than those large tour buses) where you can get to know your tour guide and all the others on the tour with you.

“Would have gone with Rabbie's but so glad to have chosen Real Scottish Journeys instead!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I had gone on a Rabbie's day tour four years ago and this year wanted to go on a similar small group multi-day tour of Scotland with our three-year-old son. Unfortunately a lot of tour companies, including Rabbie's, didn't take under fives and I booked the Highland and Island Special Four Day tour via the Heart of Scotland website for the sole reason that the minimum age for passengers was three. It turned out to be a fantastic experience, and we heartily recommend Real Scottish Journeys to everyone.

Bill, our guide and driver, was an excellent raconteur, telling jokes and weaving historical accounts, myths and legends with ease, insight and humour as the amazing Scottish landscape rolled past. He was great with the kids (our son and another couple of boys on the tour with us) and had them doing high fives and chatting with him right away. Our son now calls himself 'Driver Bill'. It looked like the child-free couples in our group enjoyed themselves too.

The pace of the tour was excellent -- packed yet unhurried with plenty of rest stops. It certainly helped that the Jacobite (Hogwarts Express) steam train passed along the Glenfinnan viaduct just as we were there on Day 1! We never felt as though we needed to stick to a tight itinerary and Bill always checked with the group to see if we were happy with the day's plan.

Start times of 8:30 and 9:30am were much appreciated, and restaurant/cafe suggestions as well as the selection of accommodations (central location and plenty of choices for breakfast; cost of stay not included in tour fee) were good.

The entire experience was great value and we felt as though we were on a private road trip with friends rather than captives on a mass-produced machine. It was a real Scottish journey!

“Music, Laughter, Homecoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

Three days on the road with the misty mountians of Scotland with 15 people from all over the world.Yes it was wonderful. Our guide Bill from Real Scottish Journeys was the welcoming voice of celtic stoires, history, humor and warmth. He embraced the rain and told us" ta weather,s peefrct for a tour". He brought along his own road trip music and even made it possible for us to visit our family castle Dunvegan while the rest of the tour went to see a light house. Bill brought us Home to Skye. Have you ever visited a fairy glen? Bill took us there and we left a gift. He showed us "a lak tha looks lik the map a Scotland", ha ha what fun we had.
I am tour guide and story teller and found Bill to be amazing yet humble. We invited him to stay at our home if he ever visits our area.

“Incredible Highlands tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

We booked this tour at the last moment as most of the other tours were already booked. We were sceptical till the moment we met our tour guide Bill. But he made this whole experience unforgettable. For the next 3 days we laughed, we cried and we lived the Scotland experience. Bill told us numerous stories of wars, heroes, love & friendship woven around the highlands history & lifestyle. His passion & energy was contagious. Me & my husband really enjoyed the 3 day journey and would love to go back on another voyage with Real Scottish...

Bill made our booking for 2 nights in a B&B as we did not have time to do it ourselves...I dont remember the exact name...but the breakfast was awsome...and rooms were good too.

“The best tour I have ever been on”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011

I read the two previous reviews, along with others for tours in Scotland. My husband and I are spending a month in Scotland to understand and appreciate Scotland, its history and real Scots after two years of reusading both Ian Rankin and Alexander McCall Smith. We also knew we wanted to go to Skye. The three day tour to Skye through the Highland was ambitious in the places it covered yet flexible in allowing opportunities to visit places those on the tour and a real interest in seeing. This review echoes those reviews.
Bill is a story teller as well as a great researcher, so the stories he told as we went to each place reflected history as well as the magic of the Isle of Skye.
One of our tourers was somewhat limited in his movement and Bill made sure that his accommodations fit his needs and made adaptations so that the elderly gentleman had as much enjoyment as the lively 21 year old au pair traveling with us.
Bill's recommendations on where to eat were ded on for each type of taste experience and Bill booked our accommodations based on our preferences. Ours, for a B&B, was wonderful.
Our tour had to be altered on the fly because of an unavoidable monster traffic jam. Because Bill had built up such a fine traveling spirit among the whole tour and because he explained the driving rules he had to operate under, I don't think anyone resented the change in plans and we enjoyed seeing the sights he pointed out and the stories he told on our revised route.
Since there are many tours and they all start to sound alike, I am including the website address here: www.realscottishjourneys.com. Each tour includes different attractions, but the breadth and depth of the history and the stories make the tour. We have taken tours with two other companies here as well, which were both competent but neither were as entrancing.
