We recently stayed for 4 nights at The Cuillin Hills and took advantage of a very reasonable winter rate.
Couldn't fault the hotel with friendly staff and lovely clean and comfortable rooms. The water and fruit delivered every day was a bonus!
Fantastic breakfasts and delightful evening meals. Although a shame the menu did not offer a vegetarian option and there was little variety over the 4 nights we dined here. Try and avoid Friday and Saturday nights as service was extremely slow.
Highlights are the fantastic views, the "whisky wall" and the decor - very relaxing.
We will be sure to visit again!

We stayed at this beautiful hotel in Skye, which overlooks Portree Bay, after we had been driving around Skye and it was getting dark. Skye is absolutely incredible, particularly if the travelling is done without a map in hand and you just set out to adventure. As it was getting dark, and we had not booked a hotel for the night, we had to inevitably look at the map to see where the nearest spot of civilization was. This turned out to be Portree, which is a very nice little town, with a central street which looks like a market street and a very pretty square. As the name indicates it is a port and hence next to the sea. The bay is beautiful and calming.

We first tried a couple of B&Bs to see if we could get a room for the night, but they were all full except for one where we had to share a communal bathroom, and we were not too keen on that. Finally we decided to try some of the hotels. We first drove to The Cuillin Hills Hotel; you go through a narrow drive, and it feels like you are coming into an estate, and then you end up in front of the hotel, which looks like a Victorian seaside villa, very pretty. We walked in and asked if they had any vacancies for the night, and found out that they did. The atmosphere was friendly from the start, but the price was a little out of our budget for the night. We asked to see the room and were shown by a very friendly blonde lady, who had always a smile on her face; it makes a huge difference when you are tired, cold and hungry to be received by someone with a friendly and warm attitude.

We liked the room, although it was at the back of the hotel, but it was big, had a large en suite bathroom, was very clean and warm, and most of all it was peaceful, the linen smelt fresh and you could open the window and see trees outside.

Even though we liked it we thought we might try our luck at another hotel in the centre of town, to see if we could find something cheaper, as we were just there for the night. We found another very lively hotel in the middle of the town, very smart looking, with a restaurant underneath. We asked if they had a room and again they had one at the back. It was the same price as the Cuillin Hills, but the room looked onto a light well, which was a bit depressing. It was also very clean, spacious and with good decor, but I was worried about being on top of a restaurant in case there might be some noise coming from below.

In the end we decided to go back to the Cuillin Hills, and we never regretted it, particularly in the morning, when we got up and walked outside on the front of the hotel to see one of the most spectacular views in Skye!

My Wife and I visited the Cullin Hills Hotel last weekend 19th-21st Feb, our first visit to Skye. My first impressions were not only the beautiful setting and views but the friendly welcome that we received at this recently refurbished and tastefully decorated Luxury Hotel from the staff. We had booked a special package consisting of 2 nights Dinner Bed and breakfast and this was excellent value for money. The room was very comfortable, spacious and had a turreted sitting area offset, where we relaxed and sipped our Champagne before going down to dinner. The fine dinning experience was second to none and rates with the best London Restaurants. The menu choice was excellent consisting of a blend of local produce of fish meat and poultry All the food was obviously freshly prepared and to order. The extensive wine list which was reasonably priced for a restaurant of this calibre proved irresistible. The desert was probably not the chefs strongest area but did not spoil an otherwise dinning delight. After dinner we retired to the lounge for Cullin Hills special coffee brew and Drambuie. Next day was a day of exploration and fun as there are so many places to see and things to explore on Skye. It is impossible to do everything in a day. Thank goodness it was off season and some of the attractions were closed. That evening we enjoyed another fabulous meal and we slept like logs. There was a slight chill in our room at first but when we mentioned this a supplementary heater was installed, which made the room nice and toastie. Next day we were up early and went to breakfast and another fantastic meal try the smoked salmon with scrambled hen eggs or the smoked haddock with soft poached egg or just go for it!! and have the works a full Scottish breakfast that will last you all day. Overall this newly refurbished and very tastefully decorated hotel is an absolute gem but it was the culinary surprise and the warm friendly people that who work there that made it perfect for us. I highly recommend this hotel as your base when next exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye.

We spent 3 nights staying at The Cuillin Hills with 14 friends, last September. The staff were exceptionally courteous, fun and kind. We were all so very comfortable in our bedrooms, and the drawing-rooms were bright, spotless and comfortable. we greatly appreciated the log fire. We all enjoyed dinner each night, and breakfast each morning. Nothing was too much trouble and the whole experience was so good that we are all booked back for another 3 night stay this September!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel recently. Booked as a late deal, we couldn't have imagined that we could be so lucky ! Both the reception rooms and bedroom were very well furnished. We had one of the Turret rooms which had a huge bed and lovely sitting area. The dining room has fantastic views across Portree harbour and was very busy on the night that we stayed. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were warm and welcoming........what more could you want ?

I have to compliment the Cuillin Hills, it's really one of the nicest Hotels on the island. Modern, welcoming with nice rooms. We ate in the main restaurant the first night, the service was good and the meal was OK, my partner was a wee bit disappointed that her potatoes were not properly cooked and leeks were burnt, as the restaurant is quite expensive. Our first and second wine choices were unavailable, the Hotel buys wine from a supplier who sells to a lot of similar hotels in the area, as such the choice of interesting bottles is very limited. It's a shame it wasn't quite right. Bedroom was very comfortable, though noisy neighbours woke us both nights. Breakfast was very good, with good service.
We ate at the Boswell Hotel in Portree for lunch, pleasant enough, and craving a nice bottle, we were dismayed to find the wine list and lunch menu very similar to The Cuillin Hills. Is it owned by the same people?
Overall this is a very good Hotel, with a few tweaks it could be brilliant, it was not the Hotels fault we had very noisy people on either side of our room.
Certainly to be recommended.
