We stayed at the Greshornish Hotel last year for our Wedding Anniversary in July. We had a magical four days. The staff were great, the food was out of this world and the service we received was second to none. I spent a long time in the bathroom-the view over Loch Greshornish from the 'wee' seat was wonderful! I could go on and on, but have been told to keep this review short and to the point. You must visit this hotel.

We were in greshornish only one night as part of our honeymoon.
While you´re getting to greshornish you realize that is a special place, you get there trough a private road and you see that around there´s no more property.
One there the owners make feel like in your own house (they speak spanish), our room was perfect (islay) with four posted bed, nice bathroom and wonderful views.
The restaurant it´s perfect, we love good restaurants and we have eaten in several restaurants with michelin stars very famous in spain and greshornish restaurant has nothing to envy them.
Summing up: quiet, romantic, special, beatiful, .....

We are a couple with a 5 year old child who visited the week before Easter 2007. The hotel is a well kept georgian property in attractive surroundings with spectacular views of the sea run by a polite and proper, husband and wife team (ex Eton housemaster). Isolated location but well worth finding (TomTom took us straight to the door). I needed a good start to this two week walking holiday in Scotland as my Greek wife neither likes the cold nor walking. Our room was on the top floor (no lift) with an uninterrupted view looking out to sea which immediately made us relax. The room was huge by usual hotel standards and was divided in two by a step down to another level where our son slept .The antique furniture was attractive and good quality with a clean and spacious antique white bathroom. We spent 3 extremely happy days eating well, walking/driving and chatting to other guests and the owners. Good for peace and quiet, excellent base for touring the Island and offering a great small hotel atmosphere mixed with an evening fire, small but good whisky selection and proper porridge for breakfast. There is nothing else for miles around which is exactly what we wanted and seems infinitely preferable to mediocre hotels in the vicinity of portree. I booked this based on tripadvisor reviews and was delighted by the outcome

“Like being invited into someone's home”

Greshornish House Hotel

Sep 9, 2007

My wife and I stayed in Greshornish for four nights at the tail-end of our honeymoon. We found it the ideal place to finish off our holiday before returning to normal life and work again.

The hotel itself is more like a family home into which you have been invited than a hotel. Neil in particular (but all the staff in general) was extremely welcoming and generous; it seemed like nothing was too much trouble to them. They were very helpful in finding us room when I phoned them up to book, especially as I was only booking just over a week in advance, including covering the summer bank holiday. To help keep our cost to a minimum they suggested using two rooms for different nights whilst we stayed as the cheaper rooms were free earlier in the week but not for the final night. This suggestion made a big difference to us.

It is more than worthwhile eating dinner there. The food is outstanding and we greatly enjoyed it. In particular afternoon tea everyday was a real treat - we cannot recommend the toffee cake strongly enough!

Overall, if you are looking for a quiet countryside hotel away from Portree, Greshornish is well worth looking at. It is run in a welcoming, open and helpful manner with a distinctive personal service that is so often missing elsewhere. We would certainly put it at the top of our list for the next time we visit Skye.

    • Disliked — It is quite remote - though this is also very good!

My wife and I just spent 3 nights at Greshornish House, and it was just wonderful. I'm surprised to see some negative reviews here. Rosemary (one of the owners) won't win a warm and cuddly award, but she runs a tight ship. Her husband, Neil is very kind and warm. The rooms are fabulous (we stayed in the Islay room, so romantic!), and the attention to every detail is astonishing. The bed, linens, cleanliness were first rate. The food is also first-rate, and is worth the money to have dinner there. Portree is possibly better if you are on Skye for only one night (what are you thinking? A few guests actually came from far away for one night, and that is a big mistake). You should come to Skye for a least a few days, and spend some time at Greshornish Yes, it is expensive, but you've come this far, and it is worth it.

    • Disliked — Lots of Midges. A big problem on Skye, but possibly worse here.
