“Generic dated highlands hotel”

Dunvegan Hotel

Stayed here in the high season of June.
1st impressions were not great, car park rusted broken fence and weeds growing. The hotel is typical of its type i.e main building with bolted on wood/flat roof extension, needs a lick of paint and some tlc.
Has a busy bar attached with pool table, popular with locals and a fair bit of noise.
The place is clean enough and the people friendly but inside is untidy and dated, there is were boxes of "stuff" in the common areas and it just needed a bit more effort. Furniture dated and tired, room had thick embossed 80's wallpaper and chunky white veneer bedroom suite , which was a bit naff.
For £90 the "loch view" room had a small window which you could look over the extension's flat roof to the loch. I could not open the bathroom door more than half way as there was not enough space between it and the bed.
Bathroom itself very small, clean but dated. It had no window only a loud extractor fan and was rather dingy. There was no bath just a small rather weak electrical shower like the one in my flat.
Breakfast was okay and service fine.
I wouldn't go here for any kind of romance/relaxing break.
It's shortcomings would be fine if it was £50 per night but as they are charging £90 for a nights stay it represents very poor value.

We stayed here for one night and even though we arrived quite late the chef stayed back for us and made us possibly the best battered haddock we've ever had. The views from the dining room are stunning and the owners were quick to recommend all the best scenery and walks
to see in Skye. Even though the hotel is quite far away from the bridge and ferry from the mainland it's worth the trip over West as you get to see the most amazing scenery, including the Outer Hebrides
if you are lucky. Our room was very clean and large, and we did make a point of asking to be away from the bar. NB. The hotel's cellar bar
is worth a visit if you like a lively local bar with live music. It is noisy though so if you're not planning on joining in until the early hours, make a point of having a room the other side of the hotel, we didn't hear a thing!

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was well decorated and very clean with the only complaint that the ensuite toilet and shower room was very very small.

The dinner was excellent as was the breakfast.

A good hotel in a very quiet and peaceful setting. The hotel is family run with the owners being very helpful and welcoming, nothing was ever a problem. Our room was extremely clean and had been recently repainted. Breakfast was very hearty - it certainly set us up for busy days on the Cuillin and elsewhere on Skye.

We booked a one night stay 8 months ago. Quiet location, albeit, it was a Saturday night with live music, but could barely hear that in our room. The room was fine with a spendid view over the loch. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Would definately recommend
