This was as good as it gets. We had been given a voucher by our son for my birthday and extended our stay to two days. The room was lovely, bathroom fabulous and service excellent. The meals were delicious but not too heavy so one didn't feel too full. It was quite quiet with the other guests mainly Scottish and in couples rather than big parties but that added to the sense of peace. The food was as good as we had ever tasted with a short but comprehensive menu- lovely seafood. What was particularily nice was that we were never rushed when having our meal and were able to savour the lovely flavours and generally take our time. Breakast was extensive but not cooked which was a bit of a relief as you didn't feel you had to order a cooked breakfast just because it was on the menu. Picnics were really good value and excellent. It was expensive but this sort of experience doesn't come cheap and really was a treat.

Hope to be back next year - my husband has a birthday!!

“Fantastic”

Three Chimneys Restaurant With Rooms

We have just returned from an utterly enjoyable stay at The Three Chimneys.

We stayed for two nights and really cannot fault the evening meals. We thought that the food was fantastic and the meal was keenly priced for the quality and quantity of food. We were also very surprised at the price of alcohol. Normally you find that a resturant with a reputation like this place has a huge mark up on their wines but we really didn't find that at all.

The rooms all have a lovely outlook and are large enough. Again the mini bar prices were very good.

The only complaint that I would have (and really it isn't even a complaint) is the breakfast room. The room itself has stunning views however the furniture looks cheap and cheerful - ideally I would have liked to have seen that the owners had spent a touch more money on the tables and chairs.

Altogether though a fabulous experience and one that we are keen to repeat in the near future!

Dear Traveller,
Many thanks for your kind comments.I am delighted you enjoyed your stay here and do hope that you will come again one day. Sorry about the Morning Room not being to your taste. The tables and chairs are Ercol, by the way and were recovered last winter. We have more plans to refurbish in the future, but obviously this is ongoing constantly. Just had brand new matresses delivered for all the beds! With very best wishes. S.S.

“Wow!!! Loved the Tree Chimneys and the House Over By”

Booked directly with hotel for dinner and accommodation, we arrived slightly earlier than specified check in time, however reception staff were happy to check us in to our room for the night. Room was amazing, very large with vaulted ceilings, huge bathroom and views over the Isle of Skye (although it's true what they say, you really can experience all four seasons in one day when you're visiting the Isle of Skye, we did!). A short walk over the car park you reach the Three Chimneys restaurant where the food is to die for and is definitely worth a visit at least once in your lifetime. (Highly recommend the marmalade pudding with Drambuie custard). Breakfast is served in the morning room and consists of mainly local produce - fresh smoked venison, duck, Blacky Ham, cheeses, croissants etc. Would definitely recommend as a romantic getaway or for that well earned special treat.

Ps. watch out for sheep on the roads to the Three Chimneys!

We had our usual Valentines Day treat yesterday - our 5th visit since we moved here in 2003! As usual, we were warmly welcomed in to the Reception/Snug area and given our drinks with those yummy cheese shortbread fish - I could eat them all night if they let me!!

We always opt for the 3 courses (currently £47 per person), but with that you always get the cheese fish shaped shortbread, a pre starter starter and a pre dessert dessert - so really 6 courses including nibbles/tasters! Oh and the lemon curd pre dessert dessert last night (with home made shortbread) - wow - absolutely scrummy - mmm! Infact, the pre starter starter deserves mention too - warm prawn/pasta/fennel creation in a little pot - very nice!

Service was friendly and professional as always - I honestly can never understand the harsh reviews on this site - look at the awards on their website - they alone speak volumes!

If you are looking for a Ritz style glamourous setting with crystal chandeliers and London chic, then this may be too rustic and understated for your needs, but if you want excellent food, with a warm and friendly atmosphere (no music, but one assumes talking to your partner/dinner companion/s is not totally out of the question and actually I quite like the no music thing - it works I think!), where great pride is taken in both service and presentation, then please, just book a table, go and enjoy!

I'm afraid, as usual, we were unable to stay overnight - pooches are not allowed I'm afraid (which is fine!) and also, we're not really that flush - so yet again I can't comment on the accommodation, although I'm sure if it's anything like the restaurant it will be very tastefully presented and the breakfast menu looks really scrummy!

We have a 1 hour drive back down to Kyleakin, but you can find closer accommodation in Dunvegan, Eabost, Ullinish, Struan etc. which are all within a 15-20 minutes drive of the Three Chimneys, if you decide not to splurge on their own "Rooms Over-By" - the view in the photo is taken from Eabost - 10/15 mins drive - just so you can get an idea of the area you're coming to!

Anyway, 10 out of 10 as always - well done guys - we'll be up to see you all again in August!!

Dear Yorkielass,
Thank you so much. What a relief for all the restaurant team to receive such lovely comments on Trip Advisor. You will have noticed the absolutely awful comments we have received recently. Everyone here who reads them gets extremely hurt! We just do not act in the way that we are sometimes portrayed. Thankfully, there are people out there who know that only too well, including yourself. Some who write are very economic with the truth I feel. Thank you for your support. SS

“Went beyond expectations”

Three Chimneys Restaurant With Rooms

We had of course heard of the Three Chimneys restaurant but knew little about its accomodation. So we looked at the reviews on Trip Advisor and were surprised at a number of reviews which were somewhat negative.

All we can say is that anyone who thinks that there is much wrong with the Three Chimneys restaurant and accomodation must have been having a very bad day. From the minute we spotted the property nestling on the banks of the Loch to the time we left we were spell bound by the awesome beauty of the location, comforted by the warmth of welcome offered by all of the staff, cosseted in a room which would be the pride of any 5 star hotel and fed to a standard that few restaurants in the world could match.

I am not a person who uses superlatives often but I can think of no other way of accurately recording my review of this establishment.

It is not a hotel, therefore, if you are looking for all of the facilites offered by an equivalently priced hotel, like a pool, spa, etc then you will not get them here. However, remember where you are and what you might be doing. We went long walks in clothing suitable for such outdoor pursuits and the big advantage of this place was that you did not feel uncomfortable trekking into reception in your walking gear, something we have experienced in some five star hotels.

The restauarant is superb. Local knowledgable staff who put you at your ease as soon as you walk in, top class food and a robust wine list which can cater for any taste (and pocket). Our observation was that while not compulsory, dress code chosen by the diners when we were there was at the higher end of smart casual. The quality of the food is consistantly high using local seasonal produce cooked sympathetically with great presentation.

Breakfasts are not traditional Scottish but we found them to be more than adequate again using high quality local produce.

In summary, great location, great food, great accomodation.
