“Excellent value - no complaints”

Dunollie Hotel

We're just back from an "Easybreaks" 3 night DB&B stay at the Dunollie which cost us £150 in total. After reading so many poor reviews on this website, but being seasoned Easybreak bookers, we knew not to set our expectations too high and expect to get a standard and quality reflective of what we paid. In fact however, Dunollie surpassed our expectations. Yes, we might have been disappointed if we'd paid the rack rate of £70 per night B&B but since we didn't we found it excellent value. The hotel was exceptionally quiet - in fact on our last night we were the only 2 in the hotel for dinner - that however is more to do with the fact people generally don't visit Skye in late November ! The main thing is the room was perfectly clean and comfortable with a stunning view out over the water and the food was acceptable and ample - you don't pay £75 DB&B for 3 nights and expect a 5 star luxury hotel with Michelin star food. You get what you pay for generally although in the Dunollie's case they did more than that for us. And, moreover, Skye is beautiful and without all the seasonal tourists and midgies we had a fantastic trip and will definitely go back. If you are a 'foodie' stay somewhere relatively cheap like the Dunollie and have lunch or dinner at the Three Chimneys or Kinloch Lodge. We enjoyed afternoon tea at Kinloch Lodge and it was a lovely treat - by comparison to stay there for 3 nights would have set us back well over £600 including dinner so Dunollie did the job for a late break.

“Avoid this place”

Having just returned from an overnight stay in this place I would like to warn people to avoid it...There is not sign to let you know were to enter the hotel recepion area, on entering I was told check in was three pm, (not very helpful) having checked in i found this supposedly double bedroom very small, cobwebs on the celling and walls, bath badly chipped, shower difficult to turn on and the toilet had instruction beside it which says hold the handle for 3 secs to flush...room had no hairdryer as stated, tv went on and off all evening and there was no remote control...I was told that evening meals in dinning room finished at 8.30 and bar meals at 8, ( i ate at the Claymore just along the road and had a fabulous meal from lovely friendly staff) How this hotel got three stars I will never understand. I can`t comment on the staff as I only saw one when checking in and when having breakfast no-one asked if everything was ok.I would recommend all to avoid this place.

Great staff, warm welcome, given the room we asked for.
clean comfortable and quiet.
Food not bad for price, and lots of it, and good service.
Worst aspect was the Skye beer, not well kept.
Overall good value for money, but we did have a 3 day deal, and no coaches.

Arrived at our destination and although staff was very nice they seemed inexperienced. We were given our room with a lovely water view, however the room was so heavily sprayed with cleaning chemicals my husband and I had massive headaches within 20 minutes. Went back to the desk and asked for another room. Second room was not clean and had someone's clothes on the bed and on the floor in the bathroom (nice underwear?!). Back at a 3rd attempt. Room clean and no scent. Excellent! Went to take a bath, but somehow the shower head also ran at the same time, then couldn't shut it off... No phones in the room so had to walk up to the front desk to get someone to help.

Later that night we ordered from the bar. We waited for 1 1/2 hours for our food and when it finally arrived my rice was still frozen and my husband's food was cold. Quite a fiasco??!

Later on went to bed and although I'm a very heavy sleeper could hear through the walls and the floors above creaking constantly as people walked up/down hallway.

Very dissapointing stay and would not highly recommend, unless you are simply looking for a place to lay down your head for a night.

“What a dump!”

Dunollie Hotel

After a pleasant drive from Inverness airport my work colleague and I checked in to the hotel. Being away on expenses we decided to book into the restaurant for the a la carte that evening. Unfortunately this hotel caters for large coach parties, but I was too late to see the "welcome Shearings" on the notice board. The a la carte was off as two coach parties were expected - but the carvery sounded promising and reasonably priced.

We had two single rooms - which were snug and clean but the basic business travel items (eg telephone) were missing! I managed to dial in at reception for an extra £1 (forgot to claim for that on expenses!).

The carvery was a total disgrace. The starter/main/desert were appalling. Salmon cooked to death and left under hot lights, even the turkey was scorched. The veg was boiled to an inch of its life - boiled carrots, swede, potatoes, beans and croquette potatoes. I suppose catering for coach parties they don't need to be al dente! You certainly didn't need teeth! Breakfast was equally awful - I'm not sure the sausages had ever seen a pig. It was Brake Bros catering that's for sure.

The first night (yes we were there for two!) was interrupted by load crashes and banging of cases. There isn't any sound proofing at all so we made the best of the "midnight sun" and stayed out until 1am the next evening (after a lovely trip to Plockton).

Avoid Dunollie if you possibly can. Let the coach party travellers keep it!
