“Best hosts ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Beautiful location, comfortable and contemporary rooms, and superb food. What more could you ask for? The most helpful, welcoming hosts we've ever met! Stuart and Sarah are superb -- genuinely interested in their guests, knowledgeable about Skye and Scotland, and ready to help you get the most out of your stay. So many thoughtful touches added to our stay -- the space heater Stuart brought us when we arrived soaking wet, the comfortable lounge room with awesome views, the delicious wine, soup & bread supper offered after a long day of exploring, the Drambuie served alongside my oatmeal. We met several other guests who return every year and stay for a week. I know why -- if we ever get back to Skye, we'll be sure to book here!

Thank you for your review, we are glad your enjoyed your stay. I we have said before we only want our guests to enjoy their time on Skye and their trip to Scotland. The weather has a large part to play and making the most of Skye can depend on this. Lots of place to see even if its raining. We hope you had a safe journey home.
Best wishes

A lovely hotel with a superb position and views, great rooms and a magnificent breakfast. No tissues in the room and shower mixer taps hard to operate, but otherwise well appointed. The only thing that spoilt it for us was that were we there at the start of August at the same time as loads of little flies that buzzed all around you and got in your hair etc. Had to run inside from the car to try and dodge them! The house was completely clear of them so no problems indoors. I understand they might only be around for short season - no sign of them elsewhere on Skye - suggest you check for more info when you book.

Thank you for your review, we are very fortunate to live in a great place, and we believe that a god breakfast sets you up for the day. We only a small B&B so we try to provide as much comfort as we can for our guest without adding to the costs, we could have provide tissues if you had requested them (toilet tissue was provided). If you only encountered the midges in our car park you were extremely lucky, I think that we would have a lot of scientists visiting us if you only found them at the Skye Picture House and I can guarantee you will find them everywhere on Skye . To give you some information on the Midge; 1. You will find them in most places on the West coast of Scotland. 2. They appear around June and start to disappear September. 3. The best time to visit is May or end September to be midge free. 4. They tend not to fly on windy days. 5. They are attracted to carbon dioxide, so if you stop breathing you will be Midge free! 6. Avon Skin So-Soft has a good reputation to prevent them from biting, but they will still be attracted by your breath.

It was about 7pm. A car had just hit the rear end of my car, but fortunately it was still drive-able. I was looking for The Skye Picture House, and went to a house in the area to ask for directions. The couple invited me in, made me a hot drink, phoned Sarah at the Skye Picture House and Sarah came out in her car, so I could follow her back to the B&B. Once there she poured me a generous glass of wine and then brought me some lovely chunky minestrone soup with home made bread - delicious! The following morning she kindly helped me sort out contacting my car insurance company about the accident. Her support and help were very much appreciated - over and above what I would have expected in the circumstances.
Sarah and Stuart are the perfect hosts, friendly, SO helpful and very informative about the area and places to visit.
My single room, Room 2, though small, was sufficient for my needs - very comfortable, clean and well decorated. The view over the Loch from my bedroom was amazing, so beautiful! Breakfast was a real treat - eating delicious food while looking at the stunning scenery from the picture windows in the dining room. Stuart's attentive, friendly service at breakfast was also very much appreciated. The optional evening suppers Sarah cooks are also delicious - good homely food.
Nothing is too much trouble for Sarah and Stuart - they have a lovely B&B in a beautiful location. I can highly recommend The Skye Picture House excellent value for money!

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the Loch - so uplifting to pull back the curtains in the morning and see t...

Thank you so much for your review. We are sorry that you had problems with your car and it was no trouble helping you with you sort out the insurance. We only want our guest to enjoy their entire stay on Skye and let nothing spoil it. The views from the Loch side rooms are great and having breakfast looking up toward the Old man of Storr with the changing light can be magnificent.
We hope that you had a safe onward journey, hopefully you will return.
Best wishes

I love the Skye Picture House! Sarah and Stuart are amazing hosts and make you feel like one of the family. I have stayed there three times now and I will definitely go back. The view over the Loch is absolutely stunning and the sunsets are beautiful. There is decking outside where after a hard day of sightseeing you can sit out with a glass of wine and take in the wonderful scenery. The food is also amazing - the Picture House porridge especially (with a wee bit of Drambuie) followed by a cooked breakfast will set you up nicely for the day. Sarah and Stuart will also tell you the best places to visit - a boat trip from Plockton is a must! I cannot wait to go back.

My wife and I did stay at the "Skye Picture House" for 1 night only (unfortunately), as we had to drive back to Glasgow the next day. Otherwise I would have spend a whole week there. The ensuite room (Room 5) we stayed at was quite big, tidy and decorated with passion for detail. The beds were very big and comfortable. So we did sleep extremely well.

The very best about the "Skye Picture House" is the community room in the basement with comfy leather couches, huge windows to enjoy the amazing view and a huge wodden balcony to sit outside and enjoy the sunset. From there we did spot a lot of wild life like the otters that live in that area and sometimes even come up to 5m close to the house. See the video on their website. :-)

If you come to Skye you should definately stay here for some nights as everything is easy to reach from here. No matter if you want to go for a hike around "Old man of Storr" or drive down to Elgol for some "Puffin Watch Tour".

The breakfast the next morning was just amazing. The best english Breakfast I had in this 2 weeks that we were visiting Isle of Sky and Outer Hebrides. We will definately come back sometime and stay for longer. That is for sure. :-)

Thank you so much for your review, it is a pity you could not stay any longer. We do get booked up quite early in the season (same for most of Skye) so next time don't forget to book room 1 as this has the same fantastic views as the lounge. At least you had some time on our decking. As you have stated it is easy to explore all the wings of Skye from here. We hope you had a great stay in Scotland and look forward to your return visit.
Best wishes

This is our second visit as we were so impressed the first time. Stuart and Sarah made us extremely welcome, the breakfasts and evening meals were well cooked and delicious. They gave us useful tips for places to visit including restaurants. The room was lovely and had a double aspect looking over the Loch. It was a lovely place to stay and would definitely come back again.

Room Tip: If you want to see the wildlife, sea birds and seals, choose rooms facing the Loch., but these can a...

It was great to see you again and that you had such a great time on Skye, all the walking and the boat trips including the Aqua Explore with all the fantastic wild life you got to see (but we won't say any more as Mr N didn't see a great deal that day). Room 1 is our largest room and is ideal for a long stay, with plenty of space. Hope you had a good journey home and its not too long before you return.
