“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Enjoyed our three day stay enormously. Richard couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Our suite at the front overlooking the sea was beautiful and the food splendid. Thank you for making our first trip to Skye so memorable.

we did not stay here but had a wee spot of lunch as we were staying just along the road, its only 5mins from the ferry terminal so ideal in that respect. The bar was dead when we visited, we ordered 2 toasties, 1 ham and cheese and 1 ham and tomato with a side of chips. We heard in the back ground someone confirming our order but when arrived it was a ham and cheese and a cheese and tomato, now, the place is dead, only us eating, a very simple order and they got it wrong, however my wife just ate it anyway but i am afraid, i would have sent it back, come on guys , get the basics right.
The lounge is dreary and no background music, lucky to get 3/5 in my opinion

Stayed for 3 nights end of February, room was beautiful at the front of the hotel with a sea view, our doggy was made very welcome. Richard was the perfect host and made the stay all the more enjoyable. There was 8 of us and even found a hot water bottle for one of our party. The food was lovely and the fish and chips the best I have had. Would we stay again most definitely and hope to with our son and his partner. Thank you Richard from Fred, Jane and Ella.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view the back has a green banking

Popped in for lunch with mum before setting off on a walk.
I enjoyed the cheeseburger despite not being a burger fan, a friend had recommended it and it didn't disappoint! Generous sized portion with lovely fries! Fantastic! My mum had the curry special on that day as another special was no longer available. It was presented beautifully and tasted amazing.
Prices are reasonable for pub food here, location is fantastic! We regret not sitting outside to enjoy the view.
Staff where lovely, polite and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Stayed for 2 nights in Feb 2013. Really nice hotel in a simply stunning location. All the usual hotel facilities were good - rather than outstanding - the bar room, the corridors, the dining room - all perfectly clean and well apportioned. The dining room did seem to be in a strange location with a grass banking the only view - but you gotta make what you can of the facilities you have, and at the end of the day, we really only had breakfast in there and were half asleep anyway.

Had dinner when we arrived - "freshly landed (Mallaig) haddock"... Very very nice indeed. Lovely crispy batter and when I had finished there was literally NO oil/fat on the plate. That is NOT easy to do.

The room was excellent. Ours was directly above the bar but there was very little noise breakthrough. Very clean, very tidy and reasonably comfortable. My wife didn't find the bed too comfy, but I found it was fine - just goes to show that everyone has different "needs" in rooms.

Bathroom was clean, and all facilities fairly new.

Great to find a dog friendly hotel who don't treat us as outcasts because we have a four-legged-friend to accommodate too.

Big shout out to the owner Richard; very personable and helpful.

Would we stay again... YES!

Room Tip: Try and get a front facing room - overlooks the rising run on Loch Hourn - unbeatable.

From the personal welcome from Richard, the owner, to the breakfast, we could not have had a more pleasant stay. All the staff were friendly and helpful and they could not have done enough to make our stay memorable.

We had already been warned there was a 40th birthday party that evening in the hotel and Richard told us on the phone that he would give us a room as far away from the bar as possible. Which I though was a nice and thoughtful touch.

We arrived and were met by the owner who was very friendly and personable, who then proceeded to take our case up to our room (Room 12). When we entered, we were both rather gobsmacked. Room 12 is a large room with a beautiful 4-poster bed, well appointed and very clean. What a wonderful introduction to the hotel. We dropped off our case and decided to visit the lounge bar for a well earned G&T and found the barman very friendly and chatty and the girl who was placing photos of the 40th birthday party boy around the bar equally friendly. We had a our drink and a quick glance at the menu. The dinner menu looked delicious and we decided to come back down after cleaning up and changing to sample some of the delights. The food was wonderful, the steak perfectly cooked and the venison delightful.

The party came through and after another couple of drinks we decided to retire for the night. What a fantastic nights sleep, and true to his word, the room was very quiet.

We ordered breakfast for 8am as we had a ferry to catch (around 800 yards from the hotel) and were met by Richard again in the morning who served us a fantastic breakfast which set us up for the day. We checked out, well fed, well rested and delighted we had found this little gem of a place. We thoroughly reciommend this hotel for a relaxing, pleasant stay and have already raved about it to our friends.

Scottish Hotels, B&B's and Guest Houses in the 'Tourist Areas' often get a bad press for ripping off the tourists with sub standard kitch but not here. Fantastic stay, thank you so much.

Room Tip: Although facing the back of the hotel without the view over the waterfront, Room 12 is a gem with a...

My Partner and I chose this hotel as it was near to the Ferry Terminal and were extremely glad that we did! We had been pre-warned that there was a 40th Birthday Party in the Lounge that night, complete with karaoke, but weren't overly concerned about this, but it turned out to our advantage... Richard, the owner gave us a room at the back of the hotel and furthest from the lounge, which turned out to be the spacious four poster room!

As with other reviews, we also noticed the messy reception office - not a great first impression when entering, but could perhaps be easily fixed by up blinds or net curtains on that window. There was nobody on reception when we arrived, but following instructions we popped into the lounge and the barman quickly fetched the owner for us. Richard is very much a "hands on" owner and it shows in the high quality of service received whilst here. He welcomed us and booked us in quickly and efficiently, then showed us to our gorgeous room.

Even before we reached our room, I had noted that the decor in the stairs and hallway was very elegant and tasteful, in light, airy hues and our room was also beautifully decorated in similar muted colours with, of course, that wonderful four poster bed. Yes, the view from the windows was limited, but it was dark when we arrived and left, so no complaints there! Once settled into our room, we had a quick drink in the lounge before showering and changing and returning there for dinner (the 40th birthday party was occupying the dining room).

We decided to treat ourselves from the dinner menu, rather than the bar menu and were far from disappointed! Though very tempted by the scallops, I started with glazed goats cheese with balsamic dressing and his Lordship had the garlic mushrooms. Both dishes were tasty, cooked to perfection, nicely presented and just the right size of portion. We followed these up with venison slow-cooked in red wine with cranberries and root vegetables for him and ribeye steak with brandy and peppercorn cream sauce for me - again both dishes cooked to perfection and tasted exquisite! To finish I had the cheese selection with oatcakes and he had the chocolate orange cheesecake. As promised the cheesecake was indeed homemade with a rich taste which was a perfect combination of chocolate and orange. However, we were both delighted with the cheese selection - small, but more than adequate portions of mature cheddar, a nice blue, a lovely cream cheese rolled in peppercorns and a wonderfully ripe piece of Brie served with grapes, thinly sliced apple and the most wonderfully tasty oatcakes I have ever had. A truly wonderful finish to an excellent meal!

We retired early to appreciate our room and avoid the karaoke, which we barely heard and didn't interrupt our sleep at all. Wonderfully comfortable bed in a warm and cosy room, just what we needed after a busy day.

Breakfast the next morning was served in the dining room by Richard, despite his late night with the partygoers. We had fruit juice, a selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurt followed by a hearty full Scottish breakfast, complete with tea, coffee and a round of mixed toast which set us up for another busy day. Check out was handled quickly and efficiently by the lovely Richard and we were soon on our way for the ferry.

Would I recommend to others? Most definitely and we will be returning for more of the same as soon as we can!
