“Excellent and varied fish menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Visited october for both lunch and dinner during stay in Tobermory. Really tasty high quality Fish dishes and obviously fresh produce. Although not cheap, would pay 50% more for smaller portions in London. Staff friendly and helpful.

“Delicious Food!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Was there mid-week at the end of September. The restaurant was very busy but the staff had eveything under control. Our meals were delicious, the best fish pie I have ever tasted and the service second to none. I do agree with other reviewer though re the door, it really does need fixing especially on cold nights!!

“Restaurant prices with cafe service - but the food is excellent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

The clue is in the title: cafe fish. This place is trying to be two things - a cafe in the day, and a restaurant at night. And it is difficult to do both at the highest standard. I went at 8.30pm on a Sunday night. It was full. The service is pleasant and very relaxed - almost too relaxed. The waitresses float about in a laidback way, and are smiley, but don't really give you much attention. We were sitting right by the door, which is fine if you don't mind the cold - the door doesn't really shut properly, and most people who leave don't really shut it, so every time somebody left I had to close the door myself to stop the draft. The food came promptly, and was absolutely excellent, and I understand why the restaurant is so popular. During the meal, one of the waitresses emptied the glass display food cabinet nearby and cleaned it with a glass cleaning spray. This is the sort of cleaning and tidying you might expect to happen in a cafe whilst having a meal, but not a restaurant charging roughly £15-£20 for a main meal. I could see my partly-prepared meal sitting on the shelf behind as she squirted glass cleaner all around. No doubt some of it landed on my meal. When I ate it, I wondered whether the lemon taste was from the lemon or the glass cleaner! Meanwhile, from my seat I could see empty sugar sachets lying on the ground underneath a nearby table - again, more like a cafe than a restaurant. And the waitresses are dressed more for a cafe than a restaurant, in jeans and t shirts. They looked way too casual - again, cafe, not restaurant. I loved the food, but wouldn't go again. If I'm paying restaurant prices I expect restaurant service, not cafe service. This is a venue with the faint aroma of smug self-satisfaction hanging in the air.

“Wonderful Fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

A slightly odd little restaurant on the pier in Tobermory in the building which used to be MacBayne's ferry office. Nothing fancy, bare wooden tables, but just about the best fish dishes we have ever eaten. They have their own fishing boat so the seafood could not be fresher. We were there on a Sunday evening in October and it was packed.

“Gorgeous food, gorgeous place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Is is my third visit to Cafe Fish and each time it has been great. You overlook Tobermory Bay. Sat on a first floor. They do a great range of specials, depending on what they have caught locally. Today I had a hot shell fish platter. It was so good. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. The staff are also very helpful and will explain anything to you.
