Description: The best Mull has to offer - at a reasonable price.Dining at The Tobermory Hotel has changed. All of us are looking for quality at a reasonable price. The Island Diner offers just that. Still using the best of Mull produce, prepared from fresh and cooked in her own kitchen, Chef Helen Swinbanks has created an exciting new menu. There may be an American influence but the emphasis is on Scotland and the Isle of Mull in particular and the chips are very much traditional Scottish, NOT ‘Fries’.Gourmet Burgers include the pure Island beef “Island Burger” and the Mull Wild Venison Burger. Or try a Caesar Salad with Isle of Mull scallops or a Diner Sandwich with local free range pork. Watch out for specials in which seafood will feature strongly. Helen has also given in to her love of ice cream and is presenting a range of her own home made flavours. Fancy a Tobermory Malt Whisky Custard or a Gaelic Coffee and Chocolate flavour?

The Water's Edge Restaurant, attached to The Tobermory Hotel, provides some of the best quality food you'll find anywhere. The food is always fresh and local - delicious!

Excellent and consistently innovative and presented beautifully. It is refreshing to find such excellently presented food in a homely & comfortable setting. We hope you will try this excellent restuarant , but not too frequently that we cant get in !!!!!

“Nice place with good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2011

Had a very nice meal here. Although it is a wee bit pricy, the food was very good and an extra plus for the kids menu which was not just the usual "hamburger & chips". Good selection of wine and nice and attentive service

“Try elsewhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2011

We were looking forward to eating at the Tobermory hotel looking for a traditional a la carte restaurant experience having tried 3 different types of restaurant in Tobermory that week.
Despite being able to see a sample menu in advance, and thinking it a little pricey, we went for it. What a mistake.
The entrance to the restaurant is through the hotel reception and a small lounge. Having rung the reception bell 3 times someone evetually turned up to take us through to the lounge.
The lounge was typical old school country hotel with various whispered conversations going on around us. We ordered drinks from an overpriced wine list and chose our main courses fom the "2 courses for £27" set menu.
I chose lamb loin and rack.
Going through to the restaurant first impressions were that it was a work in progress. It was a real mish mash of styles with traditional decor, bistro style tables and really odd halogen spotlights on stainless steel cables strung across the ceiling.
The real disappointment was reserved for the food though. A tiny roll of loin of lamb and an equally small lamb chop were accompanied by some mashed potato and some green beans wrapped in what might have been parma ham. I had been informed that the lamb would be quite pink, not a problem as I lile my meat rare, but rare meat needs to be good quality. The lamb was awful and was mostly fat and gristle. I complained and was greeted with the dreaded line "I'll tell the chef sir" from the waiter. That was the last we saw of him and a waitress arrived to take our desert order.
The desert was fine and we had coffee back in the lounge where despite the addition of alcohol the atmosphere hadn't improved.
We paid and left, feeling a little cheated. I can honestly say i've never been as hungry having just paid £27 for a meal.
Needless to say, we won't be going back.
