“one of the most beautiful palces ever!!!”

Glengorm Castle

Our first night in mull we arrived at Glengorm castle, it was nighttime so we werent able to see the grounds until the following day. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner Tom, it looked as if he had a large group of family visiting so after showing us our rooms he went back to his group as they were lounging and having a good time in the main hall by the fire. The rooms were very nice. luxurious beds so comfortable that we felt as if we were floating, the bathtub was big enough for two and very relaxing as they provide bubble bath and candles as well. Overall the castle is definitely cold, but then again it is expected as it is after all a castle! It was nice to relax in the study by the fire, although it does get very smoky with the wind, and our host directed us to his impressive collection of whiskeys that are free for guests to try out. The next day waking up and seeing the spectacular grounds was like a dream. Breakfast was wonderful, fresh fruits and eggs made to order all produce from the castle grounds. We were lucky enough to have nice weather and set about exploring the grounds, rolling green hills overlooking crashing waves with highland cattle and sheep everywhere. Amazingly beautiful to walk around and see such breathtaking views. Overall, I loved my stay at Glengorm- it definitely is a strange experience though in the sense that you are staying in a castle where a family actually resides. The owners are pleasant but generally do their own thing, we had very minimal contact with them and their staff. If you are looking for a place where the owners are really attentive and all over you this is not the place. they have their life and their kids( who are adorable), and they basically let you stay at their beautiful castle and do your own thing so it feels a bit like you are paying to stay at a friend of a friends house. They seem like really nice people they just are not going to be following you around and anticipating your every need - I think the price is a bit steep as you dont get very personalized service like a hotel, but then again when you see the grounds and breath in the fresh air and sights you will think it is worth every penny. i would definitely come back and hope to often!

“Cold”

Glengorm Castle

After looking at the website, we were expecting a warm welcoming atmosphere, however, the castle was cold with no welcoming atmosphere. We specifically booked for the roaring log fires to come back to after walking around Mull, but had to request fires to be lit and the fire in the library smoked out the room making it uncomfortable to sit in there. The castle had no alcohol licence but we were told we could bring in our own wine, which we did, but could then find no one to provide a corkscrew! We did have an evening meal on one night of our stay which was excellent and the location of the castle was stunning.

“Loved Glengorm even though we missed it!”

We had plans to celebrate my 50th birthday (Oct 31, 2007) at Glengorm and it was to be the highlight of our trip. Because of my daughter's travel delays, she missed the ferry over so we were forced to cancel our visit at the very last minute. When we called to explain our circumstances, they could not have been more understanding and considerate, and did not charge us for our night's stay even though we were way past their "policy" in terms of refunds, etc. It's not very often that you find any management that is considerate of other's unfortunate circumstances. We were surprised and grateful. Glengorm is still on our travel plan dreams and we hope to go again one day.

We had the pleasure of experiencing Glengorm Castle and its wonderful grounds this past August. The drive to Glengorm Castle from the ferry is long and a bit scary on the one lane roads but it was well worth the time and distance. It is both a great place for couples seeking a romantic setting and for couples with children. Glengorm Castle is also the owner's residence and they have two small children. So children are very welcome and an integral part of the castle. They also have a pet dog named "Pet" who is quite old but enjoys soft and gentle affection. My daughter Bianca had the best time of our two week Scotland trip at Glengorm because she befriended Iona, the owner's niece who was the same age, and they had a wonderful time playing and running around the castle. She also loved spending time with Pet. Glengorm's backyard consists of beautiful grounds with various paths (a map is provided) you can take to the bathing area built in the 1900s, ancient standing stones, or ancient ruins of a fort. You will arrive at Glengorm and take a look at the grounds and probably decide you do not want to go anywhere else. Their breakfasts are wonderful and served in a beautiful dining room with a spectacular view. This really was one of the nicest experiences we had in Scotland. Lastly, a good place for dinner with excellent seafood is Cafe Fish in Tobermory. You need to make reservations. Their business card is really cute. It says the only thing frozen is their fishermen. Sure enough, while we were eating there, the fishing boat parks right in front and unloads their catch straight into the kitchen.

Glengorm Castle

Glengorm Castle is a refurbished ornate granite mansion situated at the end of the road on bluffs overlooking the western coast of the Isle of Mull. Its architectural detail and formal rooms give it the feel of a castle though it is not really one. Guest rooms are large and very comfortable, especially the beds, and the bathrooms are huge and nicely appointed. Common rooms include a large comfortable drawing room, a library with a gratis Scotch whisky collection, and the dining room. Grounds are open for strolling and hikes, into the hills or across fields to the nearby sea coast. Only breakfast is served. The owners live in a part of the castle adjacent and connected to the guest area--the presence of kids and dogs gives it a different feeling, but contact with the staff outside of breakfast is very limited. It is a location right out of a movie, and despite the rain (of which we had much) the views to the sea and surrounding hills are dreamlike. You need a car here to come and go. The Estate also contains self-catering cottages, a coffee and gift shop and small marketplace. But you really have to go back to Tobermory for anything.
