“Not to be missed - a wee gem”

We ate here two years ago on a local recommendation and were so impressed with the food and hospitality that on our return to Mull this year it was a must. Once again the whole evening was just superb. For the moment you are welcomed in to the moment you walk back out the door (many hours later) you are treated to the best in service, care and food. The courses are many but they follow each other at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. The small touches are dotted throughout the evening and show a level of service and attention that you would not expect in this day and age. All the staff and owners take a real pride of what they do. Nothing is too much trouble and they seem to be a step ahead all the time and know what to offer before you have even thought about it let alone finished thinking about the last mouthfull you have just eaten.

I cannot recommed this wee gem of a place highly enough. And on our next visit to mull we will certainly be returning for a third time.

“Jo and Dave's Sparkling Gem”

We found Tobermory lovely although the harbourside was a bit less charming up close than tourism photos indicated; road works underway further diminished its slightly tired state. Highland Cottage is located on a quiet street well up the hill above a number (for a town of less than 800) of Main Street shops, however shopping wasn't our, nor should be your, reason for going to Mull. The very impressive castles, Tobermory Distillery, Mull Pottery and much more plus access to nearby Coll, Tiree and especially Iona justify a stay after the 45 minute (or shorter from Morvern) ferry ride from the mainland. The charming rooms in Highland Cottage are named for local islands with the interesting exception of the "Nantucket" (accurately capturing its feel) in which we stayed. Jo and Dave Currie have managed to accessorise completely throughout with no sense of crowding in an intimate setting. There's a lovely upstairs lounge with honesty bar as well as a laptop for guest use and a drawing room down behind the dining room for pre- and after-dinner drinks or reading one of the hundreds in their collection of books. I highly encourage accepting Dave's invitation to book the dinner option in addition to B & B; not only because Jo's cuisine is fabulous, but there are only a few other options nearby and certainly none comparable. She more than deserves every cooking award she's received and the facility its "four star small hotel" rating. The tariff is quite reasonable as well (even at current exchange rates) for an island accommodation offering the kind of classy, but still relaxed, comfort and hospitality provided at the Highland Cottage.

This is a lovely, cosy hotel with everything you need. Really luxurious bedrooms (ours was small but perfectly formed) with lots of nice touches, excellent food, and convivial hosts!

We took a chance and telephoned the hotel from the Oban-Craigmore ferry having having decided on a last minute weekend break. David Currie, the co-owner, couldn't have been more helpful or friendly so without further ado, we headed straight there. On arrival, we were given a very warm welcome, shown around the hotel and taken straight to our room.

If you stay here, you must have dinner. Tobermory has a few restaurants, but none of them seem anything like this. Jo Currie is a very accomplished Chef and she and her husband make an excellent team. Pre-dinner drinks are served in the conservatory overlooking the garden, with dinner in the candlelit restaurant. The food itself is top quality, locally sourced and skillfully cooked.
Don't however, have a big lunch as you certainly don't leave the table hungry!

I would highly recommend the Highland Cottage to anyone who enjoys good food, quality accomodation and being treated like a welcome guest by genuinely nice people.

The Highland Cottage was the highlight of our recent 2-week trip to Scotland. The room was clean, pleasant, and well appointed. We had a superior room with a partial view towards the bay. Enough room (not huge but decent), a very comfortable bed, and a welcomed small sofa. The inn itself has a nice lounge and comfortable dining room and is located a few blocks away (up hill) from the main street in Tobermory. The food is clearly one of the strong points and I highly recommend having at least one dinner there; Jo's cooking is exceptional.

Perhaps the strongest feature are the owners themselves, Jo and Dave. Pleasant, helpful and informative and we enjoyed several extended conversations with them. Take some time to get to know them.

Absolutely no hesitation recommending the Highland Cottage and we will most certainly stay there again when we return (which is likely since Mull was our favorite stop on this trip).
