“Good food in this traditional Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Visited this hotel for both my evening meals whilst staying in a B&B in Dervaig. The restaurant and the bar share the same menu and quality of service. The food is excellent and very good value with a varied menu to suit most tastes. The bar is lively and friendly, a few too many dogs for my liking, but that aside welcoming.

Acting on a recommendation we had lunch in this hotel. The bar/dining room was charming and the food was excellent. I had the seafood platter which was a delight on the eye as well as the palette - the menu had something for every taste; this hotel is well worth a visit

Perfect (well apart from the weather!) long weekend staying at the Bellachroy - really warm and friendly hospitality and superb food. The special platters combining the best of local ingredients are impressive in terms of selection, quality and quantity well worth the visit alone. Agree with previous review, the cooked breakfasts which could be served warmer and despite good ingredients are a little disappointing (except the kippers which were superb). Overall highly recomended.

Comfortable country inn in Dervaig, a small town on the Isle of Mull. Well appointed rooms, not huge but comfortable, and great resident's lounge for relaxing after days out . Restaurant served delicious, wholesome food with an emphasis on local ingredients and the friendly bar offered a dazzling array of malt whiskies. All staff friendly, welcoming and helpful which added to the warm atmosphere.
Downsides
- as noted in previous review, the breakfast had to be pre-ordered the night before and was limited but satisfactory
- Wifi was free but with poor coverage in some of the bedrooms [ ours was in the attic, better on the first floor ]
The restaurant was quite costly , in fact we found costs of living on Mull generally expensive which no doubt reflects the higher transport costs associated with Island living .

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor have better wifi reception than attic rooms

We stayed at the Bellachroy for 2 nights in July - our room was excellent and the bathroom especially a high standard. The two dinners we had were superb, we could not fault the cooking or the atmosphere. The only drawback was the breakfast which was poor and served in a very dreary dining room on the first floor. However the charming waitress made up for it! We would definitely return there if we ever go to Mull again as the position is perfect for exploring the island and especially Calgary Bay which is so beautiful.

We visited the Bellachroy twice in a week during our annual family holiday on Mull, once in the evening and again at lunchtime and the food is up to it's usual high standards. The portions are huge and the seafood delicious - it is a firm family favourite. I was also amazed that the owner Nick emembered us from over a year ago (although we have been holidaying in Mull every year for the last 6 years now)!

Booking is essential during busy weeks.

We stayed at the Bellachroy for one night as part of a 2-night stay in Mull. It's a nice wee hotel, quite remote but with lovely views and a nice wee beer garden where we enjoyed a few drinks with the local sheep! Close to Calgary Bay which is very beautiful. Service was friendly, rooms clean and simple, nice refurbished bathroom with fab shower. What really sets it apart though is the fabulous food. We had the Taste of Mull platter which was a mix of seafood, meat and local cheese. Everything was really delicious (great produce cooked really well) and the platter itself was enormous. We also had a couple of bottles of wine from their excellent wine list and a Creme brûlée to finish. It was a lovely evening and certainly one of the best meals we have ever had in a restaurant. Thanks!
