“Excellent - the ride of your life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

We booked the Corryvrechan wildlife tour and asked to be dropped off and picked up from an uninhabited island. Normally, I'm not really into this sort of organised tours, but I really enjoyed the speedboot trip. We saw two eagles, deer, feral goats, purposes, seals.... Apart from the wildlife you get a good look of the Slate island, Scarba, Fladda lighthouse and so on.
For the drop off/pick up they just charged four instead of two tickets and nothing more which I believe is a very transparant and good deal. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

“no puffins left, skipper knew beforehand”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

We are not satisfied with this experience (Threshnish + Staffa). Don't book this for august if you want to see puffins. No one told that puffins leave end of July, and our kids were very very disappointed to see no puffin at all. The skipper knew this beforehand and told twenty meters before landing on Lunga that we would see no, or only one or two puffins. Turus Mara didn't tell during booking. We would have not have booked this trip if this was known beforehand. We;'ve never been to islands with less birds than those in early August.

I am disappointed our trip did not meet your expectations but I wonder where you got the impression that there would be many puffins ashore in early August. Certainly no one at Turus Mara would tell you this. Please let us know where this impression was given and we will ensure anyone with the wrong information is put right.

Nature's timetable is not exact - on every day until yesterday (6th August) passengers saw some puffins ashore on Lunga and more afloat and on the wing. One or two puffins were flying today.

Turus Mara trips are not only about puffins - they are also about all the other wonderful stuff out there and we do our very best to ensure every passenger has a great exerience and leaves our trips happy - the vast majority do as testified to by every other Trip Advisor review up until this one and by the feedback we receive every day. With forty years running wildlife boat trips we have the knowledge and experience to maximise wildlife watching opportunities.

You Don't mention exactly which date you travelled with us so I can't comment on that precise day but below is a summary of our recent trips.

On every Staffa and Treshnish Isles trip so far in August as well as puffins we have seen basking sharks, common and Atlantic grey seals, gannets, guillemots, kittiwakes, shags, manx shearwaters, great skuas, arctic and common terns, greylag geese, tysties and fulmars.

On some days we have also seen, amongst other things, bottlenose dolphins, sea eagles, golden eagles, otters, cormorants, arctic skuas, porpoises, oystercatchers, grey heron, buzzards, and deer.

Every trip has landed on Staffa allowing an hour ashore to marvel at the geological wonder that is Fingals Cave.

Every trip has taken place in the Loch na Keal national scenic area with great views of Ben More, The Burg, Gribun and the islands.

With the above in mind we were surprised to receive your poor rating.

“puffin therapy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We visited Staffa and Lunga on 10th July. The weather was superb but the trip was outstanding. Crew were helpful, friendly and informative. The scenery was stunning but the seabirds were the stars of the show puffins, black guillemot, guillemot, razorbill, tern, gannet, sea eagle, shag , shearwater, raven the list goes on. Highly enjoyable day.

“Put this on your bucket list”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012 via mobile

I'd have done this years before if I'd known. We saw a sea eagle on the way to the Treshnish Isles. But, the puffins were out of this world. I had no idea how comical they could be. They would fly past your head carrying a fish, land -sometimes badly- then run into their burrows. The highlight of my holidays.

“Brilliant experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Have been out to Lunga and Staffa with Turus Mara twice now and it is a wonderful day out - first time we went it poured down and we still thought it great. This time the weather was wonderful. The sheer volume and proximity of the birds is staggering - the noise and the smell all adding to the sensory overload. Amazing. The crew friendly, patient and helpful.
