We first stumbled upon Calgary Farmhouse 12 years ago and we have returned every year for a one week stay ever since. It is our favourite hotel in the whole world !!!! The walk through the woodland to the beach is fantastic and each year more natural art is added to create a wonderful environment for old and young a like.
Our 2 boys love it there and the freedom they have to be outside on the beach or in the woodland is great !
We have stayed both in the hotel and in the converted lofts above the Gallery and Tearoom. The lofts are modern, comfortable and a home from home with everything you need for a self catering holiday. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a great time. The dovecoat restaurant is worth every penny with food cooked from local ingredients. This is our treat to the family every year ! We haven't once been disappointed in 12 years !
Only one thing to say - give it a go,you might never want to go anywhere else !!!

This is the 15th year that Irene and I have holidayed at the hotel. As usual the hospitality was fantastic and the meals a real pleasure, with local seafood etc...All that together with the stunning scenery make our visits all the more relaxing

I've stayed at this hotel regularly since it was built as a conversion from an old farm steading. I've never reviewed it before because it's often fully booked usually with a lot of repeat customers like myself, but it struck me that it's unfair not to share a little. Through the years the hotel has moved forward with new rooms, new facilities etc and provides comfortable but not luxurious accomodation, but it's far from expensive for an island holiday. Four things differentiate it from many other small hotels. It's child friendly and relaxed, the food is excellent, the locale is exceptionally beautiful, and the atmosphere created by the owners and other artists in the area is quite unique, with works throughout the hotel, in the woods around it, and in the little gallery and cafe next to the hotel. A walk through the woods to calgary bay and back for dinner is about as good as it gets. Although smoked haddock with a poached egg on top for breakfast followed by a morning sail must be close.

First, I will start by saying that this hotel is located in a lovely location. The decor is nice as well, different and artsy. However, I will say that we felt totally ripped off by this establishment. Considering the incredibly high prices charged for the rooms, the decor of the rooms was quite simple and not up to date. The rooms were not cleaned well and not well-equipped. The biggest problem with the room was that it was incredibly. The dinner we had was outrageously priced considering the meals that were served and the drinks were overpriced as well and lacking in choice. The Calgary Hotel charges high class restaurant prices for low class pub food. How many Scottish restaurants/pubs serve only 3-5 types of whisky? I was not impressed with this hotel at all. I would not recommend staying at this hotel or visiting this restaurant. Our whole experience at The Calgary Hotel left a bitter taste in my mouth. It is clear that this couple is overcharging for everything, especially when you look around at their new home, their art studio, etc. Don't bother with the Calgary. However, I would recommend the area as Calgary Bay is truly a lovely place to visit.
