“very nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2012

Booked this accommodation upon the reviews on tripadvisor.

We were touring the Isles on motorcycles and this was a really convenient stopping point for us.

Margaret was very warm and welcoming upon our arrival and the rooms were very nice indeed, warm, comfortable with a good sized flat screen TV and large shower room.

The village has a few nice pubs, 'harbour inn' has a nice bar and there is a whiskey bar close by offering over 300 whiskey but look carefully before you select one as some are priced over £250 a shot ... yes a shot!

Breakfast was very good with everything you wanted and nothing too much trouble.

Would i stay here again .. yes without question or hesitation
Would i recommend it to you ... yes, very highly indeed ..... you will love it.

Room Tip: Book to avoid disappointment, they get very busy.

Lambeth Guesthouse has been refurbished in our mind to a level that some four and five stars hotels would love to be. The breakfast are impressive which means you won't need lunch with the amount of food that Margaret gives you for breakfast. John and Margaret and family are loveley host as they make you feel welcome and part of the family.

A really warm welcome that made me feel at home straight away. Liked the idea of sharing breakfast with others - as a person staying on my own, having some conversation over breakfast was good. Also pleased to see that Margaret was happy to nip out and get some soya milk for me (I'm vegan). Will definitely stay again

Two of us drove over to Kennacraig and took a ferry on Thursday - take a car, you'll need it while you are on Islay - with the assumption we could just find somewhere to stay as it was considered out of season for whisky etc. The locals told us that we were very lucky to get into Lambeth house (or anywhere for that matter) for the weekdays as there are many workers that travel over during this time. The opposite was true for the weekend which was much quieter and we were the only guests at LH for the rest of our stay. First piece of advice, definitely book a room in advance.

It seems that we were very fortunate to get into Lambeth house as it is a really excellent place to stay. We were very impressed by our first night there and just asked to stay there for our entire trip. The rooms are excellent (great power shower) and the breakfast equally impressive (you probably won't need lunch with the amount of food Margaret gives you for breakfast). The B & B is centrally located in the island and we just drove around or got taxis - we lucked out with a lift from someone to get back from the Lagavulin distillery one day. There is a pub across the road from the B & B and Duffies Bar a street away that a great selection of whiskies. All of the locals are very friendly, and overall LH is great place to base your stay.

Final thing, if you go to see the American monument - and you should - take some wellies and do the circular walk. Breathtaking views of different parts of the coastline but it is over variable ground.

I stayed for one night on business and loved it! I was in room 7 which was very spacious. The bed was comfortable, lots of choice on the flat screen TV and a good shower. There was also lovely soap and shampoo and a hairdryer. The breakfast was superb. Margaret is a great host. In the dining room for breakfast, she introduced the guests to each other, as the breakfast tables encourage communal eating. The TV was also on for those who wanted to watch breakfast TV. I had a lovely chat with Margaret and my fellow guests whilst eating a hearty breakfast. At the end of my working day I returned to repack my suitcase and Margaret was on hand to help. This B&B is a wonderful placed to stay, the decor is welcoming and Margaret is just lovely. It's also very central for getting around Bowmore and the rest of the Island. VERY VERY highly recommended.

Room Tip: room 7 has twin beds and is very spacious. It is tucked in a corner, overlooks a side alley and the...

We stayed for 4 nights in mid-October 2011 and were extremely happy with our room and the great breakfast each morning. They are located on a quiet side street, just off from the Round Church and a couple of blocks from the centre of town and the distillery – a good home base for touring, especially if using the island bus.

The room was very clean and cozy, and it looked like there had been major renovation to modernize the entire building in the not too recent past.

However, I agree with other commenters that the room does get upstaged by the friendliness and infectious cheerfulness of Margaret. She and John were fantastic hosts and we also felt very welcome as others have stated. We were so overwhelmed by the many ways in which they went above and beyond to increase the enjoyment and value of our stay that I decided not to disclose them – I would feel guilty about possibly raising expectations too high for them with future guests!

This would be my first choice on a return trip, just as it was for other return guests also staying there – the high scores and favorable comments are well justified. You will not be disappointed.
