I attended the Murder Mystery night with five friends on 29th Sept. Having read the other reviews, we were expecting it would be like Fawlty Towers. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I requested refurbished rooms and all 3 twin rooms were great - in the new part of the building, a good size, with lovely bathroom and stylish tv. I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and breakfast, and all the staff we encountered were very nice. The Murder Mystery event was great fun, helped by everyone having had a good few drinks by the time the murder took place. The only downside was that there was noise from a function room upstairs but the Hotel info advised that the bars closed at 1.00am. I went to bed around midnight and knowing that the noise would stop at 1.00, it was not really a problem. I would certainly stay at the Winnock again and hope a few more satisfied customers post reviews to improve the Hotel's rating.

we have just came home today from a wekend in the winnock hotel, and we would not go back. when we arrived we were given the keys to room no 20, once in the room, the bed was as hard as the floorboards, the blind in the toilet was full of damp marks and grubby, curatins and bed spread were well past their sell by date, the doors on the built in wardrobe would not close as they did not fit properly, and there was no lock on the toilet door.staff were unfriendly still waiting on them saying hi to us. sat morning breakfast we got our own tea /coffee and fruit juice. once we had ordered hot breakfast when it was put down to us it was of poor quality and there was no toast, we asked for some but alas we are still waiting on it.however the couple sitting at the down from us who seemed to be friendly with one of the waitresses got served very fast and got 2 lots of toast???.sunday breakfast was even worse, when we ordered i asked for my eggs to be scrambled and to have it with a full scottish breakfast and my husband wanted the egg with his breakfast poached, no tomatoes and beans with it. the girl took forever writing down our order, we did get toast with this one but everything else was wrong, she gave me a plate of scrambled egg and nothing else and my husband got a poached egg with bacon, we advised this is not what we ordered she took it back and this time i got what o ordered good you think, well it was stone cold and the eggs were not cooked they were just the mush that you get as eggs start to cook and it was frozen, again i gave it back , when she came back with another the sausage was warm but the eggs just the same, by this time i had ate the toast and gave up on getting a cooked breakfast, my husbands breakfast when it came back had the tomato on it not the beans he had asked for(he hates tomato near his food) again she took it back and when she came back the beans he had on his plate was a mush in the middle that seemed to have been in a pot for days , he also gave up and said it was the worst quality food he had ever tasted, this hotel had a lot of foreign guests and they should be doing better than this, people are spending a lot of money here they deserve better, all in all i would never go back to this hotel and would never advise anyone to go here, the standards are poor and the quality of their food is awfull and staff need to be trained how to treat customers. this hotel is one of the worst i have ever been in.

I stayed here for 1 night on 30th June with a group of friends for my sisters hen night, for the murder mystery night the hotel had offered.

First impressions on driving up to the hotel were good. Quaint looking in a lovely location overlooking the village green.

However, when I got to the room they had allocated me, before I even opened the fire door outside the corridor I could tell they had given me a smoking room - it was STINKING! And inside the room was even worse. I went back to reception to complain. They told me their smoking rooms are well aired and shouldn't smell and that they didn't have any other rooms available to give me! As my mum was in a double room by herself, I told them to just forget about my room as I couldn't put up with the smell, and I would go in with my mum instead. They then decided that the room beside my mum was available and I could go in there instead! They told me the room they were putting me in was a single (fine as the girl I was supposed to be sharing with cancelled at the last minute) but when I got to it, it was exactly the same size bed and room as my mums which was supposed to be a double! It was an ok room for 1 night, but a bit shabby (parts of the walls had been re-plastered but not repainted).

One of my friends had a leak in the bedroom ceiling which was splashing on the bed - the hotel staffs solution was to give her an ice-bucket to collect the water in! She had to sleep the wrong way round in the bed to avoid the water splashing her! (The bed couldn't be moved as it was fixed to the wall).

The meal at the murder mystery night was fine, although different to what they had told us it would be. Murder mystery night itself pretty fun.

I went to bed just after midnight and there was quite a lot of noise from the bar area below my room and from people walking past the room.

Breakfast - buffet style. Tasted fine, although the waiter tried to use the same serving spoon to give me tomatoes that he had just used to serve the bacon and couldn't understand why I objected to this (I'm a vegetarian)! He then put back the tomato in the dish although it now had bacon fat on it, and tried to give me the same one when he finally went and got a clean spoon! Doh!

Stayed here for a few days this week. The room was one of the newly refurbished rooms and was excellent with new fittings throughout and a TV in the bathroom. Food was excellent and service was good. Based on other reviews some of the rooms probably need updating so ask for one of the new rooms when you book. Location is excellent and their is a Browns restaurant accross the road.

We stayed here as part of a group, and booked in here as we were at a wedding nearby.
Now I have to stay in lots of hotels, as part of work and play, and feel compelled to write my first hotel review as a result of our stay at the Winnock. The experience was truly awful - especially having to pay £109 for the privilege.

Checking in was fine, but once in our room (No 16) we soon became disgruntled. The decoration was dated, the sash window broken, the bed almost as hard as the floor and there were holes in the wall from now absent brackets and shelves.
The one token towards modernisation was a flat screen TV, but the reception was non existent. A cable was tacked to the wall and the aerial hung down above the bathroom door - you had to stand and hold it to see the news.
The breakfast was not much better either. The first breakfast order was wrong, and we finally got the eggs and sausages 30mins later - time spent listening to a door constantly creaking.

We did get a small discount having complained to the manager, but they didn't seem overly interested. The retort was "we are very busy and saturdays are a prime night, and we could have booked the room many times over"

All in all a dreadful experience.

If you want to stay in a hotel in Drymen, avoid this and book into the Buchanan Arms. Other people in the group stayed there and said it was fine.
