“Room booking shambles”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We travelled for a wedding here on 21/7/12 (not the noisy one on 20/7/12!) and had booked a family room for 2 nights. on arrival we were allocated a room but on inspection found it lacking a bed for one of my daughters. Reported this back to reception and were eventually given the correct room but told it was only booked for one night. I found the confirmation on my phone to prove that we had booked 2 nights, but be warned, they do not normally send confimation out, you have to request it. I strongly recommend that anyone booking a room here asks for email confirmation of the booking. The room had been very lightly cleaned, dust and hair over the dressing table, they obviously had been pushed for time as they had had another wedding party on the Friday. Our parents also were told, when checking in, that they did not have any details of their booking at all. They had to wait an hour to finally be given a room, although they had been told the hotel was fully booked that night.... We had all booked well in advance in April by telephone... not sure who was in charge of the bookings back then!! All in all the room booking side of things was a total shambles, however other aspects of the hotel were really good. Had very nice food, especially dinner on Sunday night. The breakfast was fine but a bit lacking, dried up scrambled egg is not very appetising.
But the wedding went very smoothly, great service and food.

we also stayed on the Glasgow's Great Deal, £69 incl the £40 spend on food and drink plus afternoon tea, room & breakfast, use of leisure facilities. we had read previous reviews on the rooms, so we requested a refurbished room. we were very lucky, the room we got was beautiful - lovely decor, large room and not at all dark as some people said they experienced, but we had 2 big windows. there was also a sofa and chairs & a nice garden view, big comfy bed (2 twins made as a king).
although the refurbishment is still on-going, it was not disruptive, and the refurbished areas were beautiful.
we thought the food & drinks were a fair price for the standard of hotel, and the meal was lovely - i had seabass with napoli spaghetti, hubby had the lamb and minestroni soup. both very good. we also had a bottle of lovely new zealand savingon blanc. afternoon tea was great also.
the hotel has a really good sized gym over 2 areas (cardio & weights) and a lovely pool area. the jacuzzi was not heated, but i think there was a problem with the heating element. the bubbles worked, and people still used it, though it was a bit cold for me. hardly a cause for complaint on the excellent deal we had, though. plenty of sunbeds by the pool also, which was good.
breakfast was fine the day we stayed, nothing was lukewarm as some previous reviewers had experienced and the staff were constantly refilling the buffet, so i think previous comments have been taken on board. staff were all very friendly & helpful.
all in all, we would definitly stay again & recommend the hotel and will be looking out for the next deal they have! perfect for a short break away from the city.

Room Tip: ask for one of the refurbished rooms. even on the deals, they will give you a refurbished room if th...

My husband knew this hotel from his youth (!) so we took advantage of a deal for an overnight stay, to include afternoon tea and a very generous £40 to spend on food and drink, no restrictions. Really appreciated that, as i hate being 'segregated' from other guests when on a 'deal' - i.e different menu with limited choices, which happened to us before in a Drymen hotel and another in Strathblane (both mediocre experiences for lots of reasons).

Room was nice, a little dark but furnishings and fabrics were dark, though a gorgeous thick and spotless caramel coloured carpet! Tiny bathroom but had a bathtub with shower over, glass screen and again, absolutely spotless. Fluffly white towels and a really comfy double bed. Although we faced the main road we had no disturbances from traffic noise.

Afternoon tea good, 6 different fillings in the finger sandwiches, 2 tiny strawberry tarts, small slices of fruit cake, madeira and coffee cake (i think), 2 small scones and small pots of cream and jam. A few fresh raspberries too. Only criticism is a very small pot of coffee and would have liked to be asked if we wanted more, but waiting staff very thin on the ground as they were busy with a couple of large lunch parties.

Pool, jacuzzi and sauna very nice, well maintained and clean, not too busy. Changing rooms nice too, though with only 2 changing cubicles, 2 loos and 2 showers could get irritating if it was busy, considering they must have about 50 or 60 lockers!

Dinner in the Bistro..I wasnt particularly hungry so decided on a starter and dessert. Starter was wild mushrooms with warm truffle oil and parmesan served on a bed of leaves. Waitress asked if i wanted it sized up to a main course but i declined. Wish i had though...it was absolutely delicious! Quite honestly would go back for that alone! Hubby had fish with home made tartare sauce and ate every bit.

Drinks...hmmm. I had a glass of a rose sparkler, quite sweet but i enjoyed it so bought the rest of the bottle. Which was a bit disappointing as the label showed it to be 6% proof (Cava etc is about 13%) so i thought it a tad pricey at £21.95. But at least there was no hangover!

Got caught up in the wedding guest noise fiasco as the previous 2 reviews.....think they were having a party in one of the rooms opposite as there was loud laughter, chinking of glasses, even arguments, and this whilst still in the corridor! Once they went into their rooms it was silent, just every time they opened the door to go elsewhere or have an argument it carried right along the corridor! Maybe they should have invited all the other guests...if you cant beat them....etc!!

Breakfast was, well, it was there. Lukewarm bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms and beans. Scrambled egg the only egg choice, and this was swimming in water. Sliced well though! :-( Yoghurt, some tinned fruit and cereal. Not a croissant, roll, cheese or cold meats in sight so disappointing for me personally. Still, the toast was made fresh, so i'm a little bemused why we had to help ourselves to coffee and tea from flasks on the buffet table. Surely a fresh pot of coffee/tea isn't any more time consuming than making fresh toast?

Disappointed on check out not to be given an itemised bill, just the total after deduction of our £40 credit. I knew exactly what the wine, cocktail and dinner cost as we had menus in the room. Which meant we paid over £18 for 3 pints of Guinness and a small still water! Everything was charged to our room, but we never signed anything, and the bar service did seem a bit haphazard so not beyond the realms of possibility they may get mixed up when noting room numbers. Anyway, wasnt going to quibble cos i still think we got a fabulous deal for the money we paid.

I would love to go back and stay again, but like the other reviewers....NOT when there's a wedding!

my review is very similar to last reviewers. the hotel i would say is a work in progress, you can see money has been spent in the public areas but other areas like the corriders have still to be upgraded. the spa/pool area is lovely and very clean.
afternoon tea was lovely, the meal in the bistro was very good but agree with the previous reviewer breakfast wasn,t great. buffet style but not very warm, saying that if you request something it was done for you.
our room was small but refurbished and pleasant with a good comfy bed but total lack of sleep due to the very selfish wedding guests returning to their rooms from midnight onwards with absolutely no respect for other guests trying to sleep.
we did get asked by reception how our stay was and were told they had had a number of complaints from other guests and also staff members.
all in all nice hotel i feel will get better and i would return BUT will enquire if there's a wedding on and if so will avoid.

Room Tip: avoid if wedding being held unless you're at the wedding.

My wife and I took advantage of deal to enjoy a night away. It all started off so well, checking into a newly refurbished room which was small but pleasant enough. We took afternoon tea in the dining room which was very pleasant after which we spent an hour or so in the Spa. The Spa is modern and clean and enjoyable. During our stay it was busy but not overcrowded. We then returned to our room (3) to get ourselves ready for the evening meal. It was at this point we found that the chair at the dressing table was defective and could have caused injury. We also had to ask for a second set of towels, only one set had been provided.

The evening meal was very pleasant, the bar was busy and the lad pouring the drinks was obviously inexperienced, having to ask for guidance on many occasions. The bar has a cocktail menu and wine list all of which are clearly priced, unfortunately there is no pricing details for draught beers or lagers. Likewise, normal bar spirits show no pricing details. I hope if the hotel reads this, they will rectify the shortfall.

We retired to our room at around 10pm and the bed was extremely comfortable and we looked forward to a pleasant sleep. This was not to be the case. A wedding was taking place at the venue which we were well aware of during the day but with minimum impact to the guests. It wasn't until 1am that we heard the first of them. The wedding revelers were now heading for bed but in groups, loud groups. This continued until around 4am and included a phone call to reception in an attempt to get it stopped but to no avail. Did we have a pleasant sleep.....NO.

We eventually managed to get a couple of hours sleep and when we awoke decided to venture down for breakfast. Breakfast was a buffet style which was lukewarm at best. Having previously read marketing material for the hotel breakfasts are individualy prepared, however not on this occasion.

On checking out we were not questioned about our stay and given any opportunity to raise these issues. Will we be back....yes we will, just hope that when we do the individualy cooked breakfasts will be back on the cards. And we will be sure to ask if our stay coincides with planned wedding.

We had a one night stay here with a voucher that we had bought from Edinburgh's great deal, this included breakfast and £40 to spend towards our dinner. We arrived around 2pm and the hotel was quite busy with people enjoying sunday lunch with a piano player supplying the back round music. Luckily for us we got one of the refurbished rooms which was lovely, we had a four poster bed and great modern bathroom with views to the garden. As Andy Murray was playing in the final that day we headed down to the bar to watch the match and spent a few hours with some other guests enjoying the match. Later that evening we went down to dinner which was ok but not great. Got up early the next morning to use the gym however the staff member who was supposed to be working did not turn up so we didn't get the chance to use the spa facilities. Breakfast was good and the service was fine. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and will probably return again. Well worth what we paid for it.

we stayed overnight recently as part of a deal from the net.Service and staff was okay, room we had has been updated so clean and bathroom new.Drinks at the bar were a bit pricey, probably normal for this type of hotel,Evening meal was good as was breakfast.
so not a bad hotel, bit quiet round about it unless you like gardening centres two situated about 200m.
