“Great Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Myself and my wife booked a weekend break for ourselves and what a choice we made. On arrival at the hotel we where checked in,given our room key and booked a table for our meal. Staff made us feel very comfortable and welcome.Room was spotless and spacious as was the bathroom. At dinner we could not make up our minds what to have due to the wide range of dishes on offer in the menu, also house wine was very good. After dinner went through to the bar for some drinks. When in the bar the locals made us feel welcome also.In the morning at breakfast the waitress was given us the run down on the local amenities along with a wide range of breakfast dishes. Overall we will definately be going back to the hotel.

A very welcoming hotel. Dinner was superb with a wide choice to make from the menu. Big breakfasts as well. Rooms were very nice and cozy, bed was very comfy. A choice of the lounge bar, or there are a few other pubs within walking distance. I would certainly return again.

We booked with a group on voucher for one night dinner bed and breakfast.

On arrival, we were given the key to room three by friendly staff. The room was clean but unfortunately did not have a window, only an obscure skylight above the bed. It felt a little enclosed, had I have been paying full price I would have asked for a room change. The bathroom was clean with plenty towels and soaps.

We had our evening meal booked for 8 pm and when we went into restaurant it was full. (always a good sign). We ordered off an extensive menu included in our group on deal. Again staff helpful. Wine included too. The room could have done with heating turned down but that was my only gripe. Wife's starter and main very good as was my steak. Looking around, all meals appeared well received.
After our meal, We went into the Elph pub next door. Typical village pub where you cannot get to bar for locals. Drinks well priced.

Breakfast again very good with good choice.

All in all, staff are a credit to owner. Meals recommended and place clean. Group on deal worth it by a country mile.

The only let down was the room having no window but I appreciate owner can't rectify this easily. (maybe a clear skylight with an additional black out blind).

Many thanks to staff.

just returned from an overnight stay and wish it could have been longer, will definately return.food was amazing great choices and cooked to perfection.we had a double bedroom which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, not mega modern but very good just the same! only down side was the plumbing noises from other rooms and we could hear their extractor fans too.staff were extremely friendly and cheery.

Went to the Elphinstone one evening last week for meal with partner and mum.

It happened to be a Thursday, which is the night they do what seems to be a great value Steak night - choice of steak (and a few other things) plus a bottle of wine all for £30 per couple. As we were all driving we didnt go for this - instead just ordered from the normal menu.

Me and partner went for Medallions of Pork layered with Stornoway black pudding and finished with a cider cream sauce - generous portions and absolutely delicious. It was accompanied by a separate dish of baby boil potatoes and fresh veg - really tasty. My mum went for Medallions of pork fillet in a lemon, garlic and cream sauce, which looked great - i sneaked a bite and it was really tasty too. Her meal came with chips - lovely home made, well coloured crispy on the outside chips, none of those pasty ovenchips here.
We live fairly close by, and will definitely be making sure we return again soon.

We ate here again recently with our kids. The owners are brilliant - excellent service. The menu is outstanding - delicious pub grub. I love their puds. Open fire, lovely snug atmosphere but also room for larger parties. I thoroughly recommend this pub to eat. Biggar is beautiful too.
