Let me start this review by saying that this place would be great for a weekend getway for couples. They will treat you a whole lot better than someone who is spending loads of money for a wedding. Keep this in mind.
So as I stated before we had a wedding in late June. The property itself is very nice and secluded. There is no cell phone service so keep this in mind if booking this property. The staff delivers breakfast every morning to their guests and the breakfast is very good. That is about the only positives that I noticed about our stay. The first big issue I had with the staff came just after the wedding ceremony ended. The guests were hadn't started making their way out of the chapel before the staff started taking down the decorations in front of all the guests. I received several comments about how tacky and rude this was and I completely agree. I don't understand why they couldn't have waited just a few minutes before they did this. We still hadn't taken pictures yet and we had to bring a few decorations back to do this. The next problem was learning that someone on the staff had told my parents upon arrival to the property to slow down and stop kicking up dust. My advice to the staff is if you don't want people kicking up dust on your property then maybe you need to water down the gravel entrance instead of telling people they did something wrong when they in fact did not. Overall, the reception didn't go so bad. However, there were a couple small issues we had with the staff. There is an earlier review on this web site about how the staff stayed in the corner and made rude comments about the guests. I will back that up and say that we had our own issues with this as well. If I went into detail about them I would be typing for a very long time. Just know that the previous review was spot on.
There were also some smaller issues we had leading up to the wedding. For example, one of the staff members jumped down our throats when we went the wrong way on their little gravel road (yes they do have one direction you are supposed to go) and while we admit we probably shouldn't have done that, the way she approached us about it was very rude. Even though it was 8 am and no one was on the property and we had a million things to do to prep for the wedding.
The biggest issue overall ended up being very frustrating. When the contract was signed for the wedding, the staff told us that if the amount of people that showed up was under a certain amount, then they would refund some of the money that was paid. The amount was not an insignificant amount. So the wedding came and went and we called for the refund and they acted like they didn't know what we were talking about. The mere mention of a refund put them on the defensive and they again were very rude about the whole situation. They ended up refunding half of the original amount which is better than nothing but still not in line with what they had said originally. It was angering to have this problem when we had thought that it was going to be a non-issue. For the record, it was their idea to mention the refund of the money when signign the contract.
Other than that, there were some very small issues that really aren't a big deal. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere if looking for a place to book a wedding unless you just like rude behavior from the staff the entire time. Below is a list of things that you cannot do when having a wedding on their property. These things listed are mentioned in the contract. We thought there might be a little bit of leniency considering this was a wedding and nothing seems to go exactly according to plan. There was none. We found the staff to have a strict governing mentality and it was of course frustrating for all of us the whole time we were there.
-No hair and makeup can be done on property
-Flowers cannot be cut on property in preparation of the wedding
-They do not allow kids on the property normally. However, they will for weddings but expect to hear about how they don't normally allow this to happen.
