Definitely a unique experience but boy, it does come at a price.
First class attention from the excellent staff although I did find their tendency to pop in your room while you were out rather disconcerting. The rooms are well presented, clean and comfy with interesting antique fittings but some do not come with quite the view you may imagine, worth checking first if this is important. We were in a smaller room with a single tiny window which made the room very dark, and some are not en-suite.
We had afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast. All were excellent, the afternoon tea was a particularly quaint experience with dainty sandwiches (including smoked salmon), cakes and scones.
Worth making sure you have enough time to both walk the grounds and tour the castle itself – both activities are well worth it.
An extravagant stay in very convivial surrounding – but is it worth it? Unless you are a regular traveller to castles/stately homes very difficult to answer, personally I think it was on the limit.
