My husband is a regular visitor to The Boathouse, part of the Torridon Hotel estate. This year he persuaded me to join him - but as luck would have it we only stayed one of the seven nights booked, because of a medical problem, but I can't wait to go back. The house itself is very secluded, on the edge of the loch, down its own private road and with a jetty. There's a large seating area, with fantastic views, a wood-burning stove, satellite tv, dvd and cd player; a really well equipped and spacious kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, and wine fridge. Upstairs are two tastefully furnished double bedrooms, the master bedroom with glorious views, and the elegant bathroom. From the terrace outside you can feed the pine martens at night (they snapped up the raisins we left out!), and otters can be sighted. A generous welcome pack is provided, with all the essentials like olive oil, condiments, sugar, preserves. But make sure you bring any food you need for the week, as it isn't a stroll to the local shops and their stock is obviously limited. Wouldn't like to go there later than May, because of the midges - make sure you pack insect repellant, even in the spring. But this is truly a magical destination for couples or families, perfect for walking and wildlife, or just relaxing and soaking up the wonderful scenery and the luxury of this beautiful boathouse.
