“Really Liked It”

I stayed here while travelling. Like a previous reviewer, I wouldn't chose to stay more than a night or two, but I was delighted to find this lovely friendly place. Good atmosphere, clean, comfortable room and 'full Scottish' breakfast. A typical three star experience, and great value for money.

Room Tip: I asked for a quiet one and got one at the back, overlooking the car park. Slept like a log.

I ate lunch at hotel - the food was ok though vegetables werent seasonal which is always a pity. Service was fine. Background music consisted of commercial radio complete with adverts (fairly annoying in itself) which wasn't properly tuned in (I thought) so it drifted in an out - even more annoyting. When I drew this to the waitress's attention she told me that it couldn't be tuned any better because reception was poor. I suggested that playing music on a CD might therefore be a better option but was told that they played CDs in the evening so the radio provided a change from this. In short, I don't think she got it at all, and neither did the manager as she or he didn't bother to reply to a polite email I sent. Oh well...

A charming hotel that makes you feel at home... a group of discerning golfers spend three good nights at the Tain royal - we ate well, slept well and drank well. We received excellent, personalized hospitality from the manager Ivan and his gracious wife Jenny and their lovely staff. Sure the hotel could do with a bit of refurbishment, especially the carpeting, but in some ways this adds to its old school, Scottish town hotel charm. Brilliantly situated in the centre of the classic Highland town of Tain, the hotel puts many 5 stars hotels to shame by offering free wifi rather than charging for it - and it downloads very well. It is inexpensive across the range: rooms, food and drink. I think it was also the best restraunt that we ate in during our stay in Tain. A fine, unpretentious, warm hotel
Well done 'Ivan the Hospitable' !

Stopped by pure chance for a quick lunch en-route to Orkney. A helpful lady behind the bar offered recommendations and we both had soup (wonderful leek and potato) followed by a steak sandwich. This was without doubt the nicest steak sandwich I've ever eaten - lots of meat, rare too, and luscious onion and mushroom in a ciabata plus sida salad. If we ever pass this way again this wil be our first port of call.

A nice friendly hotel, in need of some TLC and maybe a room makeover, but all in all this hotel was comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful and the food on offer was very very good,Would I stay for more than two nights? probably not.If you are sight seeing its not ideal, but brilliant to stop over on the way to the Northeast coast and beyond..
