We stayed at the Mansfield on our way to visit friends in the north of Scotland. We were determined to stay in an old castle. This one was great because the family room was the tower. The hotel is lovely. The room was very nice! It had 2 bedrooms a great bath and an interesting turret room. You can look out over the town of Tain. The food in the restaurant was not that good, but we didn't mind. What they don't tell you is that the hotel has a ghost. I was awakened in the night to a very frightened young son! He was kind of sleep walking and nearly screamed bloody murder when he saw me. Something had really spooked him. I could then feel the presense in this room and knew immediately it was a woman. It was not a bad feeling, however. I sensed that she was a friendly ghost. (Unfortunately, though, I didn't really get a good night's sleep as I worried about my children the whole night!) I have come to find out that there is a lady ghost in that house and she apparently built the turret. So, I guess she was just checking us out and making sure we were okay! Anyway, the hotel is great and I would stay there again. And, this time I would ask lots of questions about the lady of the house!

My wife and I were about to attend an evening wedding reception having travelled some 4 hours from Aberdeen and were VERY badly let down by the Manager of the Royal Hotel on our arrival in Tain. Whilst seeking alternative accommodation we chanced upon this delightful hotel with equally delightful staff and surroundings.

The facilities were excellent - the "Bar Supper" would have graced any restaurant menu and the room we stayed (4 poster bed/En-suite with jacuzzi) in was terrific.

A full and hearty Scottish Breakfast was included in the very reasonable price of £80 and our friends were also made very welcome that morning for coffee. They were positively envious as they had unfortunately endured a night at the Royal Hotel.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else but the Mansfield were I to visit the area again. Thoroughly recommended, professionally run Hotel.

We had a couple of nights up in the Highlands and decided to stay at the Mansefield Castle Hotel for a night. The entrance is impressive. Very traditional building, full of character. The staff were very good, friendly, helpful and attentive. They all seemed to be local, which does add something to the experience and is quite rare most places I have travelled to in the UK.

Room was adequate not luxurious but we had a standard room. It was clean and everything worked. Molton Brown bath supplies and robes for our use. Kettle and biscuits also in room. We only paid £49 for the room including breakfast for two. Booked on Swallow website.

Excellent meal in the dining room on the night of our arrival.

The breakfast is better than I have had served in the last few years in a hotel. It was made to order and served on a hot china plate. The next night we stayed at the Newton at Nairn and they could learn a lot from the Mansefield on how to serve breakfast. It was one of the worse ones I have had in my entire life.

Would definitely recommend the Mansefield for a get-a-away from it all short break.

What a fantastic find! This place was a lovely surprise after a few real disappointments on our trip. The bathroom was absolutely amazing, the bedroom was lovely and had all the comforting sort of old-fashioned touches that make you appreciate the charm of this kind of country house experience. Staff were kind, service terrific - stay! You'll love it - we did!
