We reached the sea-side town of Tain in the evening of 26th. Both Allan & Tricia were present when we arrived, and gave us a very warm welcome. That night we had dinner in an excellent Indian joint, called Anisha. Fantastic food, the staff were marvelous. The restaurant comes highly recommended from Allan & Tricia as well. Try the chicken vindaloo at your own peril!! It is HOT.....

The room was a twin, with fantastic views of the Dornoch Firth and farm. The room was spotless with all the usual amenities. The bathroom was excellent with a nice shower. The breakfast was quite good as well, quite tasty and filling. The next day we spent driving up to John O Groats and took a mini-cruise on a largeish boat on the wildlife cruise. A word of advise, I would recommend people go on the speedboats, though it is slightly costlier, you will get a much closer view of the seals and dolphins.

Evening and dinner again at Anisha. Some more specialities of their chef, quite exquisite. I was frankly surprised to see such fantastic Indian joint in the heart of Scotland. Return the next day to Edinburgh to catch our flight back to London.

Driving home to Derby from the Okney Isles , I decided not to keep to my original plan to do the whole trip in one and pulling off the A9 to look for somewhere in Tiain, i came across the Morangie House Hotel.

This was an excellent decison . The hotel was delightful inappearance in and outside. The room was particularly spacious, not the box room one some times get when away on business and booking a single room.

The food was excellent with good service. I would certainly stop again, indeed I am planning a to stop again in the near future on a trip to Caithness. How the respondent from Edinburgh found everything so poor leaves me astounded. Did he get the right hotel??

Overall an excelent Highland retreat.

We originally booked for 2 nights, but had to leave after the 1st night...

The quality you get for what you pay isn't there. Room decorated with no style, the usual carpets in the bathroom (totally unhygienic to me).

The worst part of our stay happened when we decided to go for dinner at around 8pm. First of all, we were not prepared to listen to 2 young amateur violonists...When we wanted to order our meal, we were told that this was not possible because the chef was too busy, that we had to wait and that the manager would talk to us...so long that we decided to leave the place and ended up in the local Indian (good food!)...

Feel quite sorry for the management, but this shouldn't happen in a 4 stars hotel...

Stayed here for one night on a business trip and was very pleased with everything.

The rooms were spacious, well heated (good on a cold November evening) and had plenty hanging space. Also had complimentary sherry, mints, a few chocolates and a selection of fruit.
Hotel staff were all very friendly and keen to ensure my stay was just perfect.

Unlike the previous reviewer I found the food to be of a very high standard and was delighted with both my evening meal and breakfast the following morning. My only criticism of breakfast was the huge amount of cereal I ate meant I couldn't finish my wonderful poached eggs.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would most certainly recommend it.

Stayed for one night. The room we had was exceptionally comfortable and quiet and afforded us a great sleep. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The one disappointment was the food served at dinner, which was out of kilter with the rest of the hotel, definitely hotel chain food.
I would recommend the hotel on the basis of the staff and its comfort and advise against the more ambitious offerings on the menu.
