“Fantastic as always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

As I said in my previous review "We love this place". If there is a hotel with a better location then i would love to see it. When Tripadvisor produce their list of the top ten small hotels with fantastic locations this will be near the top.

But it's not just the location, the hotel is good too. It is welcoming and comfortable. The food in the restaurant is excellent. You can also eat in the bistro next door which is also great and the attached pub serves a good pint and is popular with locals and tourists. And Cathryn and her team look after you very well

The fixtures and fittings are looking a little tired perhaps but this just adds to the charm rather like putting on that comfortable old sweater.

If you get a chance, take a trip with Torridon Sea Tours (on the jetty). We had an unforgettable outing to the island of Rona with them.

Can't wait for my next visit.

House of the island is a small hotel in a beautiful location in the rugged western highlands. How many hotels have an island with two white tailed sea eagles visible from the restaurant windows? Not to mention the common seals on the rocks
Cathryn and her husband have been here for 14 years or so and have mastered the art of making you feel at home and relaxed. Nothing is too much trouble and the restaurant serves fabulous local produce both for breakfast and dinner, simply prepared and presented but with bags of flavour. Set dinner at £45 pp is not cheap but is good value. Wines we had were quality and good value. The ever attentive Cathryn ensuring that we were well looked after at all times. They also run the public bar next door which also has a great menu
Decor needs a bit of a revamp but bedrooms overlooking the loch are spacious and have big comfortable beds. Lovely little lounge with wood burner to make It cosy
Local scenery is spectacular and rugged with many local walks of various grades for both Munro baggers and those who like it less hilly.
Fitness centre rating and swimming pool relate to the hills and the loch, respectively
All in all a great place for a long weekend that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime!

Room Tip: Pick one on 1st floor and facing the loch

This was the most expensive place we stayed at on our recent Scottish tour. But it was well worth the money. It is a delightful traditional Loch side hotel. Very welcoming staff. Comfortable and spotlessly clean room - but would have benefited from a shower.. Excellent breakfasts. For dinner we eat twice at the adjacent bar/bistro (also part of hotel) and enjoyed relaxed good food there. On our last night we eat in the hotel, and the food was truly delicious. What mad our stay truly special were the special touches. The homemade afternoon teas with scones or short breads. and the staff going out of their way to give us information and advice about places to visit. Good to have laundry facilities and a drying room. This is a very comfortable hotel in a spectacular setting.

I stayed here with my husband for a night as part of a driving tour around the highlands. It is an absolutely delightful place to stay. We were slightly nervous as some of the reviews have talked about the hotel being a bit faded but we didn't find this to be the case at all. Yes, the hotel is a bit old fashioned, but in an absolutely charming way. Our room was lovely, absolutely spotless with a view over the loch. We had the most amazing dinner in the restaurant here - amongst the best food I've ever eaten. The manager is lovely and she went out of her way to check we had everything we needed. I would love to stay here again.

We spent 3 nights in this lovely hotel. Torridon mountains and the Ross peninsula are probably the best things we saw in Scotland, and this hotel was wonderful. We had a room in the newest part which was quite large and we'll decorated, with sea views on 2 sides. Food at the hotel's restaurant was great (both dinner and breakfast) and service was perfect.

Stopped here, by chance, for a bar lunch during a week in the North West Highlands. The crab cakes with salad and homemade lemon mayonnaise was my best meal of the week - and that in a week of really good eating. My partner's smoked salmon was also delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable. I cannot comment on the hotel but with food and service like this it surely can't be too bad!

A thirty minute drive here for dinner, and we were all pretty happy. The WIFI was an important draw for us, and we were warned by the apologetic and friendly staff that we would probably have a long wait because it was such a busy evening, but between catching up with emails and enjoying the gorgeous view from the terrace, we were happy to wait. The food was quite enjoyable, as was the wine - we paid 126 GBP for dinner for four people, which I think is reasonable - we all had starters, main course, and only two had desserts (we had our wine by the glass). This place seemed to be a real hub of activity in an otherwise very quiet village.
