Hard to express what a great stay this was. I brought my partner all the way from Los Angeles to see this breathtaking part of Scotland, where every bend in the coastal road brings stunning view after stunning view. Culduie is remote, but that's exactly what we wanted - an escape. The big surprise was the fantastic little house with all the mod cons - brand new facilities, flat screen TV, wireless internet, central heat and air, even underfloor heating in the bathroom and handmade chocolates on the pillows. What a luxury! Janet could not have been more welcoming; this was immediately apparent when making the booking. She stayed in town over New Year to accommodate us, and we were thoroughly taken care of.
Now: to the food. Local, mostly organic. Fresh bread, chocolates and shortbread made by Janet's sister, Annie, from across the field. Three choices for breakfast (smoked haddock, poached egg and bacon, anyone? That was just one dish), homemade jams and marmalade. All spectacular and abundant. We were invited to dinner with the whole community on New Years Eve, and rang in 2008 under perfectly clear, starry skies. What else is there to say?
We came an extremely long way to stay with Janet; it was well worth it, even driving over the Bealach na Ba at dusk! Our every expectation was exceeded, and we made a new friend. We'll be back first chance we get.
