What a joy to find this amazing hotel and for it to live up to expectations - the setting is stunning and really enhanced our stay as we could see the islands and sea from the hotel (though not our bedroom window). If you do want a sea view room, there are only 2 in the main building, so do check at the point of booking if it's that important to you.
Almost all tables in the dining room have views to sea (some with rather clever positioning of huge mirrors !). The food is absolutely delicious and having read a previous TripAdvisor review about the beef carpaccio, I was curious when it appeared on the menu. It was really very good but was surpassed on both nights by some of the most wonderful seafood I've ever tasted. There's an extensive a well judged wine list - we were offered this to peruse as we sipped afternoon tea after our arrival.
Whether you opt to join other guests for pre-dinner drinks at 7:30 or go straight into the dining room at 8:00, there's a friendly and gentle atmosphere. All the staff we came across were tremendous - very professionally competent without taking themselves too seriously. They were equally happy to top up our wine glasses as to leave us to do it ourselves and were rightly proud of the quality of the produce they were serving.
This is a spot to return to again: we had a fair old mix of sun, rain, wind and cold at the end of May. There are good walks and a beautiful sandy bay a few miles short of the hotel. We could have stayed longer and without doubt will return to explore Lochinver and the coast to the north as well which we didn't have time to do on this trip. Don't let anyone put you off - this is a bit of heaven and worth any long drive !!
