“Lovely peaceful retreat - great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

A couple of days peace and quiet at one of our favorite locations on the West coast. Fantastic food - a great selection of local food nicely presented, looked almost too good to eat. A great cheese board full of Scottish cheeses, friendly staff and a wonderful wine selection with every course! A lovely break - Thank you.

Kind supportive comments such as these motivate my small team to try harder to please future visitors to the Summer Isles; we are delighted that you enjoyed the wines!
Thank you

We had dinner at the Summer Isles, on our honeymoon, although we were staying elsewhere. It came with a recommendation - although not as the best in the region. Well, we also attended the 'best' in the region and the Summer Isles was far, far superior. Despite not having a Michelin Star, it was a superior meal in every way to most single Michelin star establishments I have attended. A delicious meal, based on local produce, superb service, outstanding matching food and wine, and a wonderful location. Nothing was too much trouble - there was no complacency or feeling of the management being superior to the guests, just fabulous hospitality. We sat with other delightful guests before and after the meal, all friendly and relaxed - and they seemed to be regulars there which is always a good sign. The drive there and back was a joy in itself. Strongly worth seeking out this place.

This hotel is something special the food is as close to Michelin Star level as we have experienced anywhere. It is just a evening of delight after delight as the courses arrive with the option of also having carefully selected wines to compliment them. There is no hurry just a leisurely meal. The accommodation is well equipped and the adapted bathroom for disabled guests is excellent. The views are amazing.

After extensive travelling in the North West Highlands it would be difficult to choose a more beautiful location than the Summer isles hotel at Achiltibuie . Facing south on a fine day it looked at it,s best .We stayed for 3 nights in the tan era Mor room in the annex with a wonderful sea view .A king size bed ,spacious bathroom and separate sitting area made us feel very comfortable. An important factor to be considered in view of ever changing weather .
We chose the tasting menu in the delightful intimate dining room for all 3 evenings . A touch expensive but each evening was memorable. we were granted a wonderful table by the window ( with some glorious sunsets ). The ambience (both inside and out )justified the expense ! We were quite happy to spend close to 3 hours enjoying the fare .After all the midges were waiting outside .
The staff were friendly and helpful and in Terry ,the owner we appreciated his engaging ,relaxed ,yet courteous manner . He made us feel very welcome .
Breakfast was first class .a wide variety of choice enjoyed at a leisurely pace .Thank you to Chris for his welcome on arrival and valuable road directions when returning to Inverness . We missed the traffic jams on the Kessock bridge.
We look forward to returning .

Room Tip: Large room with sea view worth the additional expense . Facing south catches the best light. Privac...

We spent two nights plus dog at the Summer Isles Hotel. The situation is magnificent - a mixture of jagged peaks and beautiful views across the sea loch to the multitude of islands ! We
stayed in a Courtyard en-suite room which was spacious and very comfortable. One night we had dinner in the hotel - several courses which were inovative and delicious. The other night we ate in the bistro next door also a great dining experience ! The hotel staff were very polite and helpful, nothing being too much trouble. Definitely worth the extra drive time to stay in the Achiltibuie area.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are quite adequate as you'll wanty to spend most time touring/walking around...

We included this hotel in our itinerary for a Scottish tour. In fact, it was significantly below our expectations and by far the poorest hotel of the trip. The location is beautiful. We had a standard room with "loch view". The room was located in annex and was small and in need of refurbishment, the bed was extremely hard and the towels and bed linen were frayed and in need of urgent replacement. The driveway passed within some 10 feet of the window which meant it offered no privacy. Before arrival, we were asked if we wished to take the "fine dining" or eat in the bistro - we chose the former and were asked to join other guests in the lounge at 7 pm for canapés and drinks. The lounge was too small to accommodate all the guests so not everyone was able to join in. We finally got to our table at around 8pm with dinner finishing after 11 pm. It was not fine dining - portions were very small and the cooking was satisfactory but not at all special. Service was poor and, despite asking, I failed to get the wine to go with the fish and main courses before I had finished the respective courses. On the other 2 nights, we ate in the bistro which was altogether more satisfactory. The food was at least as good as the fine dining and the service prompt.
Overall the hotel was tired with management needing to address the poor service urgently.

A remote position in an area of great beauty....even when the weather drives sleet parallel to the ground! A hotel with completely charming staff, few sea facing rooms which are well worth it if they can be booked but for the sake of the superb food one might even be happy sleeping in a wardrobe. If you want an experience to remember and especially to celebrate a special occasion the journey and cost are insignificant and your reward and the experience one to treasure go there ...before you die!! Be warned some rooms have absolutely no view but with a dinner lasting from 7pm to after 10pm starting with a cocktail and canapes the evening is already spoken for and during the day there is a sitting room with fabulous views and the area demands walking and exploring by day. The Chaplin room can indeed be disturbed by noise form the bar and for us this was very helpfully sorted out.

Room Tip: If you are going that far anyway save a bit more and book a room with a sea view.
