“A Very Charming Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

The famous "Neptune's Staircase" of terraced locks leading to the south entrance of Loch Ness is definitely worth a stop. Entire village oozes quaintness with small B&B's and pubs displaying colorful gardens and flower-filled window boxes. DON'T MISS THE HISTORIC ABBEY WALK across the street from the locks. It's lovely, with the Benedictine Abbey on the right as you walk down to the opening of Loch Ness at the end of the trail;-) We happened upon the walk by accident at sunset, and it ended up being one of those special vacation moments.

“Drove out to see monster, but enjoy the fort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2011

When traveling around Europe with two children it becomes necessary to visit places like Loch Ness not for historical purposes, but because of monsters. We drove out to Loch Ness on a cold August day with rain that felt like ice pellets (okay, not really that cold) when hitting our face.
Since we were here, we decided to visit Fort Augustus and walk around. Even on a cold, rainy August day a walk around Fort Augustus was a lot of fun. The entrance to the fort grounds is kind of interesting in itself. You enter a building on one side of the road and go underground to the fort side.
While we did not have any remarkable sightings of the Loch Ness monster, the time spent at the fort was enjoyable.

“The loch, canal, museum, The Abbey buildings and Cruise Loch Ness are brilliant, by exception everything else is forgetable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011 via mobile

Overmany tacky wee shops and eateries that get their buisiness far too easily. But for the location they would fail due to complacent and passively rude approach to visitors.

But there is alot of free things to see and wonderful Loch Ness Cruise to compensate. Its worth the visit for all of those.

“Lovely Lunch Break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2010

Stopped here for a quick lunch break and a short walk along the Loch shore. Area was very quaint and would have liked to have spent a little more time here.
