“Awful customer service & they think charging top dollar for items past their best before date is acceptable.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Woman behind the counter was a battle axe. We bought a bottle of "Scottish punch" which came in a wine bottle, it's a non alcoholic fizzy juice that they've priced at £4.99. At that price we thought it must be good. We left the store and after trying it that evening, noticed it it's "best before" was May 2013. When we went back, the woman was so rude and tried to justify selling something that was past it's best at that price. We got our money back but I would avoid going here.

I feel so bad for all the tourists that come to these places and get ripped off.

“Worst greeting ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

I just realized that I am about to join a long list of non-happy customers. This places is just the worst welcome ever. They are so well located that, I think, they forgot about the legendary Highlands Hospitality or the staff working there have never heard about this famous hospitality.
there is no price on anything, if you asking for toilets, you got the answer:" that it's only for customers"... My answer to the non smiling lady: "Hello? we have just ordered two soups". talking about the soup: it was the worst tasteless soup served with a week old piece of bread for almost £4. Just next to me a Chinese family was almost sent out for bringing a sandwich inside. Even before they had the intention of eating it, they were told that they couldn't eat their sandwich or drinking their water unless they were ready to buy it from the place. i will say if you are looking for a modern version of "Les Miserables", this place displays a perfect Thenardier style..only difference, I didn't see any men, only 2 women (one not better than the other).
Only good thing there: the toilet are immaculate .. for customers only
You have plenty choice of coffee shops in Fort Augustus, just carry on walking if you are ending in front of Mc Veans door

“worst customer service ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

there are several places to eat and even though I have not eaten in any of them except mcveans all of them must be better than this place the place is a shambles nobody seems to know what they are doing, I have never seen customer service as bad as this the staff are so rude and bullied poor japanese customers who were unlucky enough to wander in, I queried whether the get any returning customers and all I got was a shrug of the shoulders. I cannot believe anyone would visit this place more than once.

“What happened here ?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Used to be the supermarket of choice, but the restaurant never really got off the ground. Nothing on the shelves, no smiles, no ice cream. Where has it all gone ? Easily trumped by the supermarket attached to the nearby garage now. People no longer go to McVeans despite its amazing Canalside location, why ? Seems like supplies are difficult so choice is very limited. When it was busy they famously levied huge fees on non customers who parked on the forecourt. Nowadays they need to get somebody to wave a flag to encourage those miscreants to return in the hope that they might buy something. I guess it might need some new blood to reinvigorate the whole offering and maximise the location which should be so easy for an experienced operator who knows what they are doing.

“Good range”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Enjoyed the range of sale products available in the shop. No hard sales pitch from staff allowing customers to browse at their leisure.
