I chose this hotel based on the reviews of others here and boy was I glad I did. Everything about this hotel was above expectation.
While checking in there was another family having difficulty getting their reserved room. This was a spring break week and the hotel was fully booked. The hotel claimed that this had been a problem for them all week with internet reservations only. The family was obviously frustrated, claiming that they had even called the hotel directly during the day to confirm their reservation. Yet, they were unable to give the name of the person they spoke with or produce an actual confirmation number.
Thank goodness I always travel with my printed confirmation sheets. We were sweating it out a bit since we were checking in so late at 11:00 pm and were wondering if the same would happen to us, but thankfully - when it was my turn to check in I enjoyed the Priority Club treatment. The hotel clerk did call area hotels for the family with problems and found them a room at a no-name establishment 5 miles down the road.
The room was fabulous with everything working in perfect condition and very clean. By hotel standards the furnishings are beautiful. This hotel is well maintained - it looks as if it were built yesterday. The beds in this HIE sit up considerably higher than others. I loved it ,as for me it made the bed more comfortable, but for someone very petite, older, or a bit compromised physically this could present a problem I suppose.
I am very noise sensitive so I tend to focus on these issues. The AC/Heat unit in the rooms of this hotel are great - they are continuous when being used. Meaning that if you're using it, it doesn't cycle on and off which is very nice as you don't have to listen to that hallmark "thud" when the thing kicks off and on throughout the night.
No sounds could be heard from any other rooms, above or below. No hallway noise could be heard either. Usually mornings are loud in a hotel with everyone showering. I don't know how HIE managed to conquer that hotel flaw - but they did here! Others can ONLY be heard using bathroom fixtures from inside your own bathroom! I was able to shower, run the blow dryer, etc while my entire family SLEPT! That is a first in history for us.
Breakfast bar looked good in the morning but we didn't stay because it was busy in there. Out in front of this hotel is a drive-thru Starbucks and a Huddle House restaurant.
This hotel can be a little tricky getting into when arriving at night for those who are on I-24 WEST bound. You must turn right off the exit ramp and immediately get into the far left hand lane. We felt the lighting here was not only odd but the lane markings on the road were difficult to assess, especially with all the traffic that seemed to be in the area. After turning left you want to turn right again, before you get to the Starbucks drive. We laughed at the time but it was crazy that it took us two attempts before getting into the hotel parking lot. It was frustrating only because we were tired and you can see the hotel the entire time.
The only negative about this stay was that it was the most expensive hotel room of our trip. Given the surrounding area/location - we were a bit confused by that. From this exit everything appears to be a sleepy little rural area. It's very nice and quiet.
