“Unusually Good Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We are not fans of Scottish pubs but this one is an exception. Lovely location, pleasant bar / dining area and three excellent real ales (tried them all!). Meals very nicely presented and excellent value, particularly for Scotland. More expensive fresh seafood available if you want it. Friendly service and clearly very well run with a lot of personal attention. Did not stay at the hotel as there are a number of good self catering cottages nearby.

Excellent Hotel in a great location on waterfront. We stayed there 2 nights. The room was very comfortable. The food was excellent. Best smoked salmon I have ever had and seafood was simply fantastic. Extremely fresh and well presented. The breakfast is also excellent by the way
Only drawback, slightly expensive...

Dear Bertrand,
Thank you for your kind review. I'm delighted you enjoyed your recent stay with us so much. As for the price- this can be tricky, as seafood is inherently expensive- even though it's so local. We do try and balance the menu with cheaper ingredients whenever possible.
We do hope to welcome you back to Kylesku soon,
kind regards
Tanja

We stayed in this hotel for three nights as part of a tour of the Highlands. The room was very comfortable - with a loch view - and the staff and management very friendly and helpful. The food was one of the highlights of the visit - especially the seafood. Food was very fresh, delicious, superbly cooked and beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed the crab and the 'tapas'.

Room Tip: Choose one with a loch view!

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in mid August. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience made even better by the friendliness, knowledge and enthusiasm shown by all connected with the hotel. The food was excellent and there was a well stocked and comfortable bar. The room we had overlooked the loch and was very comfortable.

We were recommended by Sonja to go take the Coast Road to Lochinver and beyond via Stoer Head - and we were provided with maps and recommendations of places to stop. As we were later in our stay when we drove up to Dungeness. And do take the boat trip (again arranged by the hotel for us).

We had booked for 2 nights in this hotel, and loved it... We came in from Skye and it's a beautiful drive in (follow the coastal route)! Just make sure to foresee the necessary time ..

This place has a very relaxed atmosphere, great and very friendly staff, and Tanja gives you all the necessary info on what do around, she made us discover some 'hidden' beaches and places... Really very helpful .

We had to switch rooms during our stay (we knew this upfront, due to full occupancy), and need to say that we loved more our 'Loch facing room', than the one we had the second night, which had , no view at all (although having a bath).. Reason why we give an 'average' for the rooms.

We had two times dinner over here, once in the restaurant, once in the bar (same menu anyway, excellent food), and liked the bar more, due some more 'atmosphere'.. Excellent breakfast by the way. There is also a very nice boat excursion that leaves just in front of the door, where the lady/guide on board, Allyson, has very good humour and gives you some good insight in life at the highlands.. And on top this hotel has an amazing view on the Loch.

We will definitely come back and stay over here, but only if a Loch facing room is available..

Dear Yvakat,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review. This is indeed a great spot from which to explore and experience the area. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the food, the views and the general atmosphere.
The loch facing rooms are indeed our most popular, as you can imagine- they are always the first to be booked.
We do hope to welcome you back to Kylesku if you are coming over from Belgium,
kind regards
Tanja

This hotel is amazing! We only stayed for one night but could have stayed all week! Food was out of this world (I would recommend any of the fish dishes - the freshest I've ever tasted) and the service was second to none! Everyone was so friendly and recommended the best walks for us. Room was lovely and best nights sleep I've had in ages!!!! I would definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone wanting a breathtakingly scenic view and amazing food!!

The small village is a little oasis in the highlands. Although I was there at the end of April the hotel was fully booked - and deserved to be so!

I had a front facing room overlooking the loch. The room was clean, with modern décor and furnishings - absolutely delightful.

The staff were energetic with a great eye for detail and the needs of their customers. They have obviously been well trained by the young owner. All the staff were quick walkers - one of the simplest ways to tell you how good the service is likely to be.

The food was very good.

The rates are relatively high but you get what you pay for. I thoroughly recommend this hotel and restaurant - and advise you to book to ensure you are not disappointed.

A warm welcome in the heart of real Highland wilderness. Kylesku is a delightfully peaceful village on the shores of two large sea-lochs, Loch Glendhu & Loch Glencoul. It is an independently run small hotel with current owners Tanja Lister & Sonia Virechauveix eager to provide a warm welcome. The views from the hotel overlooking the loch and the local mountains are awesome with the bar, restaurant & lounge providing a perfect vantage point for overseeing the local wildlife - an abundance of seals, red deer and birds, or even our more elusive neighbour, the local otter. We are passionate about food, and with local fishing boats landing daily in Kylesku, seafood is a speciality. Fresh langoustines, lobsters, spineys, crabs, mussels and haddock are available, alongside quality meat & game. We also offer a choice of vegetarian options, all of which can be washed down with wide selection of wines, beers & malt whiskies. We hope our wealth of local knowledge will help you to get the most out of your stay here. There is something for everyone, be it walking, climbing, fishing, wildlife watching or simply combing the many deserted white sandy beaches of the North West Coast. We are happy to help you to plan your itineraries whether by car, on foot or pedal power. Our hotel is also featured in the 2012 Good Hotel Guide and in Claire MacDonald’s famous recipe book Scottish Highland Hospitality, where she states that “Kylesku Hotel combines everything I consider to be essential for a visitor to the Highlands - comfort, really good food in an old hotel with all the present-day amenities, and truly spectacular scenery wherever you look.” ... more   less
