Been meaning to try Coffee Bothy for a few years and every time we visit Golspie, we keep saying we will do but somehow never get found to it yet all the reviews keep ranting about how great it is. Well this year, we finally did make time to go and try it out. I had a slice of Lemon Drizzle cake and my mum had the White Chocolate Cheesecake. Both sound great, looked quite pleasing to the eye. The reality? The cheesecake was REALLY sickly and far too sweet and the Lemon Drizzle cake didn't taste of Lemon enough. It was also quite stodgy rather than fluffy sponge. I get MUCH nicer Lemon Drizzle cake from my local tearoom at home and for 60p less!! The Hot Chocolate was WAY too hot and, had this been the US, I'd have sued like the couple who sued McDonald's on account of McDonald's coffee being so hot. Do these people not know they are supposed to put a warning up if they are going to make drinks over a certain temperature? I know people will say "it's Hot Chocolate, the clue's in the title!" but it took 35 mins to cool to a temperature where I could just about manage it and the temperature completely ruins the taste. Only giving them average as my son LOVED the chocolate cake which, let's be honest, isn't unusual for a 5 yr old boy.. anything with the word chocolate and he's there.
