We stayed for one night as part of a long weekend break. It is a very old historic building in the heart of Dornoch and we found it a very pleasant place to stay. The room was average size but very clean and tidy with everything you would expect. The bathroom was very clean with a huge shower, plenty of towels and bathrobes also provided. The evening meal was amazing with 1st class service. It was very busy as there was a wedding party staying that day, but at no point were we made to feel less important. I wouldnt hesitate at booking again. Anybody that feels they need to complain about this beautiful and friendly hotel needs to spend a night at the famous Adelphi in Liverpool to bring them down to earth!

Deceided to have a weekend away with my fiance up north and booked 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast in Dornoch Castle Hotel. I just fancied a change from our usual fairly modern hotel chioce and an Old Castle seemed a great idea.

I was not disappointed our room was gorgeous in the castle and the staff were very warm and friendly - nothing was a problem for them. The food was amazing although a little expensive well worth every penny and the wine selection was great which suited us just fine. The walled garden is nice but could do with a bit of work!

I loved Dornoch Castle Hotel and I'm trying to talk my fiance into getting married in dornoch.

“Love it!!”

Dornoch Castle Hotel

Apr 1, 2008

My husband and I stayed at Dornoch Castle Hotel as part of our honeymoon in the Highlands. We've stayed in 4 different hotels in the past 3 weeks ranging from 3* to 5* and i have to say that Dornoch Castle was the best.

We stayed in the Old Courtroom which was fab, a big four poster bed and open fire...def worth the money for a special occaison. When we arrived the fire was roaring and there was a bottle of champagne wating for us. The staff are really helpful and friendly, but the best thing was the food....it put the 5* hotel we stayedin the following few nights to shame. Not huge protions but absolutley delicious. The bar area is warm, friendly and welcoming where we got chatting to lots of other guests who seemed equally please with there stay.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to get away from it all for a few nights, we'll be back!!

“Great Value for Money”

Dornoch Castle Hotel

Mar 29, 2008

Stayed at the Dornoch Castle Hotel for 3 nights in a Deluxe Room, Dinner Bed and Breakfast. Location was mainly due to golfing at Royal Dornoch, Brora and Tain. The rooms themselves were not the greatest in that the walls are quite thin and they are in need of updating, however they are immaculate and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms are also spotlessly clean and provide adequate facilities for showering etc. The reception staff were more than friendly and actually escort you to your room. The bar staff are very professional and tend to your every need.

The food was probably the best part of the stay. The A la Carte Menu and the Early Dinner Menu is fantastic and the quality and quantity of the food is great value for money, especially when you consider you get £27.50 per person per night for dinner and the total cost for the night is £54.66.

You could stay in a more up to date room in a travel lodge granted but you have to appreciate George140 if you want some character then you are not going to get this in a travellodge. The other side of it is that you only really need to sleep in the room so it does not become a huge issue.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates good food and basic clean digs that is major value for money.

“great disappointment”

Dornoch Castle Hotel

0/1 found this review helpful

food.....7/10
staff.....6/10 (helpful but inexperienced)
arrival..2/10, table in bar, no privacy, no individual attention
room...1/10 expect a lot more, even for a standard room, makes a Travel Lodge seem exoctic.
Definately oversold in the annex section, which is the majority of the hotel, will not be going back!
