“Royal Dornoch is a golfer's dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

The Championship Course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club is a golfer's dream. It is links golf at its finest, with amazing panoramic views of the North Sea. The quality of the golf holes are terrific. It is a "must play" for anyone on a trip to play the great links in Scotland.

Just try them.. enough said. The staff is friendly and the club is welcoming to all...even non-golfers!

“A special round of golf, way up in "the pointy part" of Scotland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We’d been looking forward to playing Royal Dornoch for years, and the Championship course did not disappoint. Everyone’s comments about the wonderful layout, conditioning, views and turtleback greens are spot on; and you’ll use every club in your bag as you tackle this challenging, fair test of classic links golf. Unfortunately, the club had misplaced our caddy request, which was a bummer, because even on a day with fair skies and low wind, as we had, this is a course where local knowledge is an advantage.

We also played a straightforward “warm up” round on the pleasant and very affordable Struie course, which is an even better value when booked for the day before/after a Championship course round.

While at Dornoch, take a moment to enjoy the huge display of ball marks in the starters’ hut that golfers from around the world have left with the starter. The pro shop inventory has more variety than many, especially for women; and refreshments in the clubhouse restaurant will not disappoint. The clubhouse, itself, has all sorts of wonderful memorabilia; not the least of which is the renowned Carnegie Shield.

Our only complaint is how the misplaced caddy request was handled, as it was clear that the dismissive staff thought we had never made the request, which was both awkward and frustrating. Afterwards, we located several emails documenting that we were in the right, but that’s small consolation. Mistakes happen in any business, of course - how these are handled in the moment says a lot. A club of Royal Dornoch’s distinction and sky-high fees needs to do better.

“Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

This is it.

Golf at it's absolute finest.

The layout is incomparable, the conditioning was superb, and the weather even cooperated for one of the best times I have ever had on a golf course. The bowl top Donald Ross greens are a test. The hardpan fairways teach you new ways to hit shots, and the bump and run (or even putting) from the fairways opens your eyes to possibilities you don't usually face in the US.

The staff here was unparalleled, from the caddymaster to the pro shop, and the restaurant afterward.

Play here. You will want to return many times.

Tom Watson was correct, the most fun you can have playing golf.....

“The Best”

A must add to your list of golf courses to play in Scotland. Not only is the golf course wonderful the staff is the best. Scenery is amazing and the condition of the course is always championship caliber.
